Two Wheels on Dirt - MTB and BMX Instruction

First gates of the season… though I’m feeling the early season sluggishness, there are very few things in sport that compare to the BMX Gate Start, able to put fill power down to an almost instant sprint with riders crowding both sides(all I can think of other sport wise is sprinting out of the blocks). Then add in the art of flowing on the track as represented by Gus hitting the 3rd and 4th straights.

Just finished my first Ninja Clinic of 2026, and the first ever held in the St Louis, MO area ever… what a great group of riders and Castlewood is a cool park with some fun flowy trails!

Had a great weekend racing the Redbull Tennessee National at Windrock… placed 2nd to Jeff Sims, (Congrats Jeff!). It was a solid run, missed a couple lines but not too badly. Super pumped and proud of Gus, he placed 3rd in a class of 52 riders, he was also the 2nd rider of the day to break the 3 minute mark. A big thank you to Aaron Gwin and the crew at Windrock for an absolutely fantastic weekend!

So I did a thing last weekend… changed roles and became a true student again by taking Aaron Gwin’s Race Camp course at Windrock. Aaron didn’t just regurgitate what everyone else says, he provided true value by teaching from his experiences and perspectives. I learned much and grew both as a rider and a coach over the weekend. Thank you to Aaron and Jake for a wonderful weekend!

Build in that solid foundation, go back and focus on those fundamentals, and watch your riding and enjoyment improve!

Had an absolutely amazing time leading a PMBIA Level 1 Course in Santa Cruz, CA. It was a bit chilly and wet at times we all had fun and learned a lot… such a cool group of coaches!!!

Had a great clinic in San Francisco this weekend… I always love getting to teach out there, great trails snd even better people!

Had a great coach session yesterday with Gus… we worked on cornering on imperfect corners, fallaway berms/changing camber, off camber, roots, etc., linking up pressure points and adjusting bike body separation for maximum traction leading to explosive acceleration on the exit!

Snow Ride, it wasn’t easy… get off the thin packed path and you are busting through a layer of ice. WILL BE BACK OUT THERE TOMORROW! 😁
