Our teachers began their school year yesterday with a great breakfast provided by farmdalechurchofthenazarene. Thank you Farmdale for providing the delicious start to our day!

Our final team is our Administration Team! Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Wise are our principal and assistant principal and Mrs. Bauman is our counselor. Mrs. Belcher is the coordinator of our Family Resource Center. All of these ladies work hard daily to keep our school running and make Smyrna an excellent place for students to thrive. We hope as you attend Meet the Teacher later today that you see all these wonderful people that make Smyrna the best elementary school in JCPS!

Families, just a reminder that our Meet the Teacher event is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4th from 2:00-3:00 pm. This is an informal time for you to drop off supplies, visit your child’s classroom, meet the teacher, and finish any paperwork to begin the year off right. If you were unable to attend orientation, you can also take care of confirming transportation and picking up car rider tags if needed. Students, this would also be a good time to turn in your summer workbook! You can come and go between 2-3 pm, but the school building will close at 3. We are excited to see your smiling faces!

On the first official day back for teachers we introduce three teams that literally keep our busking running. Without these people, everything else would fall apart. They are of course our Office Staff, the Housekeeping Staff and our Cafeteria Staff. Ms. Melissa, Ms. Julie, and Ms. Alisha keep our office running like a well-oiled machine. Mr. Gary, Mr. Mike, and Ms. Yoselin keep our building in top shape and it looks amazing after their hard work all summer. Ms. Angie, Ms. Katie, Ms. Jill, and Ms. Jennifer run our cafeteria and keep us all fed and happy. A HUGE thank you to each and every one of you for making Smyrna the best place to work in JCPS!

Today are two teams that are essential to support the success of our school and our students, the Special Area Team and the Resource Team. Our Special Area team provide our students with the opportunity to become well-rounded scholars and they love their positions. This year that team is Mrs. Breeden, Ms. Corley, Mrs. Grant, Mrs. Massey, Mrs. McQueen, Ms. Meyer, Mr. Sivado and Ms. Totten. The Resource Team not only assists with students, but they support our teachers in many ways that help carry the burden that classroom teachers experience. These dedicated ladies are Mrs. Bynum, Mrs. Geary, Mrs. Coleman (Ms. Brie to our students), Mrs. Herps, and Ms. Richardson. Thank you all for the time and commitment you give to our school community!

Today we’d like to introduce two teams that work with two special populations of students, our ELD team and our ECE team. Our ELD team works specifically with our Multilingual Learners. Ms. Meng has joined Mrs. Frey, Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Gregory, Mrs. Haskins, and Ms. Martinez to work with our growing group of students that are learning to speak English as a second language. Then we have our ECE team that works with students with specialized learning needs. This group includes Mrs. McQueen, Mr. Bird, Mrs. Cook, Ms. Daugherty, Ms. Morton and we welcome Ms. Chesnut as our new Speech/Language Pathologist. This team is also looking for some new members that we hope to meet very soon! Both of these crews work hard to create the best learning experiences for the students they serve. They are excited to begin the 26-27 school year!

Our last team of classroom teachers is our Fifth Grade Team! These educators of our oldest students are ready to prepare them for middle school. Ms. Adelere is returning and is joined by Mr. Ray. Welcome to Smyrna Mr. Ray! Our third fifth grade teacher is waiting to be discovered and we cannot wait to meet the new teacher joining our school very soon. They will join this great team teaching our Fantastic Fifth Graders!

Our Fourth Grade Team is the team of the day for Wednesday! This group has a few changes. Mrs. Burgos is returning to work with Ms. Wood who moved down from fifth grade last year and they are both welcoming Ms. Leonhardt to Smyrna. These ladies are already working well together to make our incoming fourth graders feel ready and able to begin their years as intermediate students. Let’s hear it for our Fabulous Fourth Grade Team!
