Commonwealth Offerings for Learning & Training (C**T) TRIS
C**T TRIS is Available
Starting today, the Commonwealth Offerings for Learning & Training (C**T) TRIS is available for learning and training activities.

C**T TRIS brings together functions previously supported by DCBS-TRIS, the TRC Portal, and ECE-TRIS, also known as the Professional Development Registry System. Together, these legacy systems were referred to as KY TRIS.

What ’s changing?
You will now use C**T TRIS to access and track your training. The legacy KY TRIS will no longer be the primary system for completing or tracking training.

What do I need to do today?
Go to https://colt-tris.ky.gov/ .
Sign in with your KYID/KOG username and password or create a KYID/KOG account.
Explore C**T TRIS and review the reference materials available to help you navigate the new training hub.

Where can I find training resources?
Training recordings and supplemental guides are available in C**T TRIS. To access these resources, log into C**T TRIS, open the User Menu, and select the Resources tab. Please note, not all Learner roles have a training recording to review.

Is support available?
For help creating a KYID account or resetting your KYID password:

• Email the KYID Help Desk at [email protected] .
For help with identity verification (RIDP):

IMPORTANT: Update on HB 6 Special Education Needs Training Requirements

Dear Child Care Providers,

As you may know, Kentucky House Bill 6 (HB 6) establishes a new requirement for all child care providers to complete three hours of annual training focused on supporting children with disabilities.

**Mandated Special Needs Training Hours per training type:

Licensed Programs – (3) three clock hours of SEN

Certified Homes – (2) two clock hours of SEN

The Division of Regulated Child Care (DRCC) has issued an update regarding how this requirement will be monitored and enforced:

No Citations This Training Year: DRCC will not cite providers for lacking this specific training during the current training year.
Monitoring Systems in Development: Training records for this requirement will not be surveyed until the necessary tracking systems are fully in place to ensure proper and accurate monitoring.

Effective Enforcement Date: DRCC will officially begin surveying this requirement on July 1, 2027, at which point they will begin citing for non-compliance.

What you should do now:
While you will not face enforcement actions immediately, completing this training remains a core pillar of early care and education best practices. We strongly encourage all providers to proactively take 3 hours of Special Education Needs Training this year to stay ahead of future enforcement.

The JCPS 2027-2028 Kindergarten Application period will be open November 2 – December 18. Children who will be 5 on or before August 1, 2027 are eligible. Register your child to start the process at any time at https://www.jefferson.kyschools.us/page/how-to-apply

The annual JCPS Showcase of Schools will take place on Saturday, October 24th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, 3029 W Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, KY 40212. Representatives from all 160+ JCPS schools will be under one roof to share information with families about the district’s various choices, including magnet schools, career programs, and more.

The world currently faces many crises. Early childhood educators can’t solve them all, but we can influence the outcome! Dr. Rachel Larimore will make a case for nature-based early childhood education as a powerful tool for influencing the future of our society and planet. She’ll address the core components of nature-based pedagogy including how we can support learning with nature among three spaces—the Inside, Outside, and Beyond. This session will bring together nature-based approaches and social-emotional learning. You’ll leave smiling, inspired, and ready to change the world!

September is National Food Safety Education Month, and it is a good time to review how to keep food safe. One way to prevent foodborne illness is to cook food to the right temperature. Food may look cooked on the outside but still be unsafe inside. Harmful germs, such as Salmonella and E. coli, are killed only when food reaches a safe internal temperature. That is why using a food thermometer is so important.
