Having a Child Nutrition Label for some of your purchased products is a requirement in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, and when not available, a Product Formulation is needed. But what does a CN label tell you about the product? Why do you need to have it?
Watch this Meal Pattern Minute to get a quick snapshot on what the CN label is all about:

The USDA CACFP requires that at least one serving of grains each day is a whole grain-rich food item. Whole grain-rich is the term designated by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) to indicate that the grain content of a product is between 50 and 100 percent whole grain, with any remaining grains being enriched. Check out this resource from the National CACFP Association that can help you identify if a product is whole grain-rich.

July is National Picnic Month, a great time to take children outside to explore parks, nature, or
community events. But just like any mealtime at your program, food safety is important when you are away from your program. Your field trip meals can be safe and enjoyable with planning, communication, and smart packing. This Mealtime Memo from the Institute of Child Nutrition shows how to pack, store, and serve meals safely for field trips while meeting the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements.
