St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School

On Thursday, St. Francis middle school students welcomed students from the Islamic School of Louisville for a day of encounter, friendship, peace and community. Together, they watched The Sultan and the Saint, the story of the remarkable meeting between St. Francis of Assisi and Muslim ruler Sultan al-Kamil during the Fifth Crusade, when Christians and Muslims were at war. Students reflected on what it means to step beyond our comfort zones, truly see others, and allow strangers to become friends and neighbors.

Then they worked together to engineer devices designed to save a “tomato astronaut” from a 70-foot fall! With help from the Louisville Fire Department, 17 tomatoes took the plunge. Five survived!

we are deeply grateful to the Islamic School of Louisville, their principal and teachers, and especially to their middle school students who welcomed us into their lives and heart with grace and generosity.

This is our mission in action: creating welcome, stepping beyond our walls, meeting our neighbors, building relationships, and forming young people who recognize the dignity of every person.

Father Erdman visited each classroom with the Blessed Sacrament, giving our students and staff a quiet moment of prayer and placing our new school year in Christ’s hands. What a special reminder that our faith is at the heart of everything we do at St. Francis of Assisi.

It’s almost time to be back in the classroom at St. Francis of Assisi!

Please keep these events in mind this week:

Monday, August 10: 1st - 5th Grade Orientation at 6:30pm - all 1st-5th grade students should have one parent present. (Parents-only event).

Wednesday, August 12: First Day of School for all Students! The regular school hours are 8:00am – 2:50pm.

**Parents are invited to our PVO BooHoo/Yahoo Breakfast on the SFA Front Lawn after drop-off from 7:45-8:45 on August 12!

Saturday, August 15: Join us for our Beer Garden event benefitting the 8th Grade class trip, kicking off at 5:30pm in our courtyard (more details at https://www.sfalouisville.org/beer-garden-2026)
