Today, on International Day of Peace, our MKU students remind us that peace begins with the lessons we teach our children.

As they sing “Light a Candle for Peace,” we celebrate the importance of kindness, respect, understanding, and compassion for others. Our hope is that these small voices grow into a generation that chooses peace and makes our world a better place.

A fire truck pulled up to school—and curiosity took over! 🚒

Our students climbed inside the truck, examined the controls, and discovered how firefighters use their equipment. Trying the fire hose made the hands-on lesson even more memorable.

A huge THANK YOU to the Pewee Valley Fire Protection District for sharing your time and teaching our children about fire safety. We appreciate the care you bring to experiences like this and everything you do to protect our community.

MKU was proud to participate in Flutter Fest at the Louisville Zoo!

Our students have been learning all about the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly—from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis, and finally a beautiful butterfly. Our Casa (3-6 years old) students have also been working on their public speaking skills, and Flutter Fest gave them a wonderful opportunity to put those skills into practice by presenting what they learned to others.

We are so proud of their confidence, curiosity, and excitement for learning. Experiences like this allow our students to take what they learn in the classroom and share it with the greater community. A wonderful day of learning, discovery, and growth for MKU!

To a young child, pouring a glass of water can be a pretty big deal.

So can buttoning a shirt, preparing a snack, caring for a plant, or cleaning up a spill.

In a Montessori environment, these everyday moments have purpose. Children aren't just completing a task. They're practicing concentration, coordination, independence and the confidence that comes from realizing, I can do this myself.

That's part of what makes “work” look so different in early childhood.
