Creating a university that's a living laboratory for sustainability and a campus community that's en

The University of Louisville is committed to integrating sustainability into everything we do - from how we manage our facilities, finances and people to what we teach in the classroom and what we research in the lab. Our vision is to create a university that is itself a living laboratory for sustainability and a campus community that leads by example and educates as much by what we do as by what

This week on Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, reconnects with a frequent guest on the program, the thoughtful and insightful environmental educator, Carolyn Waters. Listen now at https://soundcloud.com/wfmp-forward-radio/sustainability-now-carolyn
Carolyn was last on the show a year ago with her folk band, The Cottonwood Buds, but we last checked-in with her about her environmental education work on the 400th edition of Sustainability Now!, back in December 2024! Get caught up with her newly rebranded firm, Open Waters Consulting (formerly Ranger Rabbit Consulting), just beginning its third year supporting initiatives that amplify human relationships with nature. Learn more at Open-Waters.com

We discuss her professional work helping with fund development for green infrastructure projects, program evaluation and curriculum development for green workforce development programs, and a landscape analysis of Southeastern U.S. K-12 teacher supports and barriers to environmental education in schools. She’ll soon be presenting sessions at the Association of Nature Center Administrators, the North American Association for Environmental Education, and the Kentucky Association for Environmental Education.

But we also dive into some of her other pursuits, as a musician with The Cottonwood Buds now writing absurd songs about climate change; preparing for a trip in September to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota; recovering from chronic illness; raising vegetables, fruit, and chickens at home; and engaging in some rogue urban canopy restoration in her neighborhood!

As always, our feature is followed by your community action calendar for the week, so get your calendars out and get ready to take action for sustainability NOW!

Sustainability Now! is hosted by Dr. Justin Mog and airs on Forward Radio, 106.5fm, WFMP-LP Louisville, every Monday at 6pm and repeats Tuesdays at 12am and 10am. Find us at https://forwardradio.org
