While many students spent spring break relaxing, three ULSOM medical students Shannon Derkson, Gbemisola Owolabi, and Grace Hong, chose a different path. Through the 2025 International Service Learning Program (ISLP) in Trinidad & Tobago, they gained hands-on experience in global health, clinical shadowing, and community outreach.

From engaging in discussions on health equity at The University of the West Indies to conducting health screenings for local communities, these students made a meaningful impact while broadening their understanding of health care on a global scale.

Their dedication to service and learning reflects the core values of ULSOM and the importance of preparing future physicians for health care challenges.
