Dear BCES, we will continue adhering to the Focus Act-Signed May 14, 2025.

“In my state of the state address,.... “Smart phones have beneficial roles when used in proper settings. However, these often-disruptive devices have no place in our classrooms during the school day except for educational purposes or during an emergency. The FOCUS Act will enable students to ‘focus’ on learning while in school rather than on their phones.” (Governor Kay Ivey)

Please join us in welcoming Mr. Lanorion Hicks to the Barbour County Schools family!

A proud Barbour County native and graduate of Carroll High School in Ozark, Mr. Hicks is currently a junior at Troy University, where he is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. Go Trojans!

Mr. Hicks has served children and families in various childcare and educational roles since he was 16 years old. He now joins us full-time as our In-School Suspension Teacher. In this role, he looks forward to positively influencing students by helping them learn, grow, accept responsibility, and make better choices.

After completing his degree next year, Mr. Hicks plans to return to the classroom as an elementary teacher and continue investing in the children and families of Barbour County.

We are excited to have Mr. Hicks on our team and look forward to the positive difference he will make in the lives of our students. Welcome aboard, Mr. Hicks!
