Dr. John Wise, Sr., Director of the Wise Laboratory of Environmental and Genetic Toxicology, was featured in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Environmental Factor for his groundbreaking research on chromium exposure across species. While humans face DNA damage and cancer risks, whales appear to recover, offering new insights into cancer prevention.🐳

Congratulations to Aggie Williams, one of our Wise Lab members. She was selected as a scholar for the 2024 Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Program (SMDP). SMDP is a year-long mentoring program that aims to promote mentorship and support for underrepresented groups. She will get to spend a week in San Diego, California where she will be paired with an industry mentor for a professional development training experience.

Wise Lab Graduate student, Idoia Meaza received a prestigious two-year fellowship from the ”la Caixa” Foundation, which grants 100 fellowships to Spanish or Portuguese candidates to pursue a master’s or a doctoral degree in Humanities and Art, Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Physics, Mathematics or Engineering. Idoia was 1 of only 19 students awarded a fellowship in the category of Life Sciences. Congratulations Idoia!! 🎉
