🌺 Summer is here, and with it comes the vibrant energy of the season. Red, the color of summer, resonates with the heart and brings warmth.

While the heat can be intense, it offers an opportunity to practice staying cool in both mind and body.

Notice if your thoughts are heated—do they irritate you? If so, try to approach discomfort with skill and slow down.

This is the perfect time for slow movement practices like qigong. Practicing qigong has been particularly nourishing for my heart.

A simple yet profound exercise involves opening your arms to the sides, slowly bringing your hands to your chest, and gently dropping your chin to quiet the mind.

As you do this, ask yourself, "What nourishes my heart?"

🌟 Practice these 3 core components of self compassion when a situation arises that brings up strong emotions.

Mindful movement such as Qigong and Yoga also cultivates slowing down and bringing more awareness and self compassion to your experiences.

Mindful transformation comes about through having a daily practice centered in self compassion.

🌼 As you begin to move your body, the mind can begin racing with doubt and fear. This is where silent affirmations become a powerful tool. Affirmations can shift your mindset and, ultimately, your relationship with your body.

Repeat phrases like "I am strong," "I am beautiful," or "I am enough." Let these words become the soundtrack to your practice. With each breath, let the affirmations wash over you, replacing any negative thoughts with compassion and self-acceptance.

Mindful Eating teaches you to slow down and listen to your inner voice. All of the outer messages we receive can be confusing and overwhelming. Often we look outside ourselves for a diet, a regimen, or something else that will tell us how to feel and what to do to look and feel a certain way.

MIndfulness cultivates and strengthens your own inner wisdom. It is about acknowledging what and how YOU feel and moving from there to grow and change.

🌠 Remember, your journey to mindful eating is not about perfection; it's about progress and self-compassion. It's about finding the balance between nurturing your body and healing your mind. And it's okay to ask for help. Reach out to therapists, coaches, or support groups where you can share your experiences and gather strength from others who understand your struggles.

Your recovery is unique to you, and it is entirely possible, even in the presence of challenges. Embrace your journey with patience and resilience.

Mindfulness practices support all aspects of life.

Mindfulness is a process-oriented, rather than an outcome-driven, behavior. It is based on an individual’s experience of the moment. The individual focuses on appreciating the experience of food and is not concerned with restricting intake.
Mindfulness is a term that has become embedded in our everyday language, but its meaning is more profound than how we use it in our driven, multitasking, social structure.

The term “mindfulness” was defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn as “paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally”

Burned out from chronic dieting? bingeing? restriction?

Life is hectic, and there will be times when we need to eat on the go or make quick food choices. It's essential to approach these moments with self-compassion rather than self-criticism. The goal of mindful eating is to enhance our relationship with food, our bodies, and the earth, creating moments of mindfulness whenever possible.

Practices like yoga and qigong help us slow down, not just physically but also mentally. This slowdown extends to our eating habits, encouraging us to take the time to make thoughtful food choices.

This doesn't mean we have to be mindful every time we sit down to eat! Daily mindfulness practices just retrain our brains to slow down in general. To acknowledge our feelings and emotions with kindness and compassion.
It's really about cultivating this kind of inner relaxation that prioritizes our inner cues about what our bodies need.

Mindful eating and slow movement teach us to be present, to notice the textures, flavors, and smells of our food. This heightened awareness can transform our relationship with food, turning meals into moments of mindfulness. It's not about achieving perfection but about cultivating a compassionate approach towards ourselves in a busy world.

When we move slowly and intentionally, our body and mind are able to relax and savor each moment. This skill supports ED recovery and is also widely applicable to many life situations.

🌴 Strength and Flexibility in Nature

Nature offers beautiful examples of the balance between strength and flexibility. Consider bamboo, which grows tall and strong yet remains flexible due to its hollow structure. Similarly, a daffodil, with its deep-rooted bulb, withstands the wind with its geometric design, showcasing resilience and adaptability.

Incorporating qigong practices into your daily routine and/or your recovery plan can cultivate both physical and mental resilience. Each posture connects you to the earth and the seasonal element corresponding to the time of year.

By nurturing this connection to nature and your body, you create a harmonious balance of strength and flexibility leading to a more grounded and centered life.
