On April 26th, we hosted the Bellarmine University High School Vocal Competition. All of the students were FANTASTIC! We wish all of them could have received a prize, but were pleased to give 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in addition to 3 encouragement awards. The future of singing is bright and these young artists exemplify that! Thank you to our collaborative pianist during the competition, Lynn Steeves! GO KNIGHTS! ⚔️❤️🎶

Every year, Bellarmine Arts & Sciences holds an awards ceremony where the individual departments announce the recipients of their respective Faculty Merit Awards. This prestigious award is selected by the department faculty and presented to one outstanding senior who best exemplifies the ideals of their department. We in the music department are thrilled to share that our winner this year was Ms. Emma Christian.
The award was presented by Dr. Hehman, who stated that "Emma Christian has been a defining presence of our department for the last four years." He went on to note that "I’ve seen outstanding lead actresses in musicals, I've seen great music theory tutors, and I've seen outstanding Bellarmine Music Ambassador Presidents; but until Emma Christian, never did I see one person do all three of these things in the same academic year."
Emma's other teachers describe her as uniquely dedicated, a genuine young artist, and someone whose commitment to her craft, combined with her kindness to others, position her well for a career as a professional musician and music educator. Dr. Hehman finished by stating: “In my six years at Bellarmine, I have had many exceptional students, but I have never seen one who embodies as fully as Emma the ideals of professionalism and integrity that we hope to see in the next generation of musicians.”
Please join us in congratulating Emma, and ALL our graduating seniors! See you at graduation on Saturday!

On Wednesday, April 22, we wrapped up our recital season with Kaema Mackey's senior voice recital. It is hard to believe that this semester has come to a close, and that Kaema and several other students will be receiving their diplomas this Saturday. We are so proud of you, Kaema! She is a student of Gabriella Galletti and was accompanied by Dr. Lynn Steeves.
We will be back with more end-of-semester updates soon. Stay tuned!
