Mission Martial Arts is dedicated to enriching lives through the teaching of traditional Taekwondo in a non-threatening, family friendly environment.
Our classes follow a traditional style of Taekwondo, meaning we focus more on the total development of individuals and self-defense skills, not on sport fighting. Classes are led by owner and head instructor, Kevin Manwell. The Manwell family continues to train under the direction of Grand Master Robert Sledge [Martial Arts America, Ankeny IA], which is a partner school with Grandmaster Woo Jin Jung [Jung's Tae Kwon Do Academy, Cedar Rapids IA].

Board breaking night in Tiny Tigers! They all did a great job. We finished class with the “floor is lava” version of our obstacle course and talking about our August Golden Word- Leadership. New session starts in September. We have couple spots open in our Thursday 6 PM class.

What a great test day with 7 tests and over 90 testers! We couldn’t do it without our instructors, group leaders, judges, board holders and all of our test day volunteers who do so many things. Congratulations to our testers for all you successfully learned and demonstrated to earn your next rank.

Congratulations Black Belt Testers! We had 4 students test for their temporary Black Belts and 4 test for higher levels. We are so proud to welcome Miss Akshara, Miss Risha, Mr. Atharv, and Mr. Mrunmay to our MMA Black Belt family! They completed years of classes, endured a rigorous 4 month training program, wrote a 5 page paper, took a written test and then a difficult physical test. Thank you to their instructors, sponsors, parents and fellow students who encouraged and helped them in so many ways. Pilsung! 🥋

Congrats to our Tiny Tigers who earned their new ranks this week- especially to Miss Evelyn who earned her Tiny Tiger Black Belt! Our students are learning Korean words and countin plus our Safe Stranger curriculum, along with beginning taekwondo.

Super Hero Super Saturday! We had a great day working out to our favorite Super Hero music and competing in Super Hero trivia and games. The emphasis was Self Defense and Stranger Danger- practical use of our taekwondo techniques . 🦹🦸

Our Tiny Tigers are so much fun! We teach beginning taekwondo along with our Safe Stranger and Golden Word curriculum. We finish each class with a fun obstacle course. Classes are Tuesday OR Thursday at 6 PM. Sign up now for session starting July 14 at missionmartialarts.net

Our trip to Iowa was full of nostalgia and special times. We loved visiting the campground that was a huge part of our kids’ childhood, seeing family, and then finishing the trip at Jung’s Taekwondo Academy. Mr. Manwell was honored in a special tea and sword ceremony for those achieving Master level and then tested for 6th Dan. It was an honor to spend time with Grandmaster Jung in his dojang with 53 years of history. Mrs. Manwell was also recognized with an honorary 3rd Dan.
