Students with talents in dance, drama, vocal/instrumental music, design and production, and musical theatre can major in these programs. As the most comprehensive performing arts high school in Kentucky, the faculty, staff, and administration of the Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) have the distinct opportunity to train, educate, and nurture today’s young talent to become tomorrow’s artists. The school has an environment where creativity and imagination are evidenced daily in the classroom, rehearsals, and performances. Students team with faculty, parents, professional artists, and community members to develop, perfect, and practice their craft in artistic experiences, uncommon to any regular program school setting. Students’ success is founded on commitment and discipline applied to the artistic program, and success is enhanced by the school’s rich diversity and understanding of the creative spirit. To complement their arts education, students take academic classes at duPont Manual High School, a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and ranked #169 in the nations best high schools (Us News & World Report). Blocks one through four meet the first day, a Red Day, and blocks five through eight meet the second day, a White Day. Each class block is 90 minutes, allowing for multiple instructional styles and methods. The eight-block schedule also allows for academic flexibility and the opportunity for students to enhance their arts education beyond their major.
