Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary

Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Magnet is the ONLY Public Montessori elementary school in Jefferson County.

Coleridge-Taylor Montessori is one of only two elementary schools in the District that offers the Montessori method of teaching through its Montessori Magnet Program. The Montessori method of education is based on self-directed and noncompetitive activities that promote positive self-image and confidence. This hands-on approach to education allows students to grasp a wide variety of academic and social skills to make learning easier. The curriculum is structured and ordered from concrete facts to abstract ideas, which offers the child the opportunity for successful learning and the joy of self-discovery. The curriculum also provides students with a firm foundation in language arts, mathematical concepts, science, geography, and practical living. Students learn in multi-age classrooms where children at various stages of development learn from and with one another. Preprimary classrooms serve students from preschool to six years of age. Primary classrooms are for six- to nine-year-olds; and Intermediate classes work with student’s nine to twelve years of age. This approach was designed to fit the child instead of making the child fit the program. Students also can take advantage of many cultural arts opportunities like band, orchestra, and violin lessons. Coleridge-Taylor offers the Advance Program, Early Montessori Childhood Jump Start programs for three- and four-year-olds, Montessori Tuition-based programs for three- and four-year-olds, Extended School Services, a Family Resource Center, and before- and after-school child care. Parents are encouraged to get involved in school and to participate in School Based Decision Making.

🌟 What a week of hands-on discovery! Here is your Week in Review! 🌟

From glowing bright to exploring through active, practical learning, our students and staff had an incredible week centered on community, independence, and curiosity. Here are some of the highlights:

Show up to Glow-Up: We celebrated our amazing attendance with Neon Day! Students and staff definitely showed out in their brightest colors to show up for school! 💡✨

Kindergarten Practical Life & Movement: Kindergarten wrapped up their toy unit and connected literature to physical coordination—learning how to Chinese jump rope inspired by the book David Jumps In! 🏃🏻📖

Third Grade Experiential Math: 3rd graders enjoyed Lunch Bunch and engaged in real-world spatial discovery, learning how to measure to scale both in the classroom and on the playground! 📏☀️

Community Connection: A big thank you to the JCPS District Police officers came out to lead our boys' and girls' groups, fostering strong mentorship and supportive social-emotional growth. 🚓💙

Making Magnificent Things: Guided by their own problem-solving skills, our 1st-grade students put their creativity and persistence to work on The Magnificent Thing project! 🎨🛠️

Dino-mite Inquiry: STREAM students explored speed and motion through active trial and observation to see if they could run faster than a dinosaur. Safe to say, those dinos were faster than they thought! 🦖💨

Beautiful As You Are: Our Beautiful As You Are girls' group had a wonderful, empowering first meeting focused on self-confidence and community. 🌸

Outdoor Wellness: Fingers crossed that we’ve seen the last of the heat advisories so our learners can get back to freely moving and taking wellness outside! 🌡️🏃‍♂️

It was truly a fantastic week of child-centered learning and growing together. Thank you for your continued support, families—have a restful rest of your weekend and a wonderful week! 🏫❤️

It’s time for our Week in Review, and our Montessori classrooms were buzzing with creativity, leadership, and deep learning! Here is a look at what our amazing students accomplished:

Shine Arts Residency: Shine Arts kicked off their residency with our 3rd graders this week! The instructors were so impressed by our students' incredible skills, enthusiasm, and participation. 🎨

1st Grade Math & Collaboration: Our 1st graders practiced "Think-Pair-Share" strategies—turning and talking with partners during an engaging Math Shake & Spill activity. 🤝🔢

Movable Alphabets in Action: Miss Gina’s class utilized the movable alphabet to give hands-on reading and spelling support to her eager learners. 🔤

Peer-Led Pre-Primary Learning: Our youngest learners showed off their leadership skills during a math demonstration, teaching each other texture and fabric matching. 🧵🧸

Inspirational History: 3rd grade students dove into history, researching and learning about the life and legacy of Booker T. Washington. 📚✏️

Geometry Everywhere: Shapes, lines, and spatial learning were spotted all over the building this week—our Montessori geometric materials are out in full force! 📐📏

A FEW SPECIAL SHOUT-OUTS & CELEBRATIONS:

🍗 Parent Appreciation: A huge shout-out to the friendly parent who brightened everyone’s day by sharing fried chicken, wings, and pizza in the car rider line! You truly made our week!

Week in Review:

🌟 WHAT A WEEK AT OUR SCHOOL! 🎉

From wild style to serious brainpower, our students and staff made every single day count this week! Here is a look at what made the last few days so special:

🍦 Ice Cream & Big Attendance Wins: TEN classrooms earned an ice cream scoop party with Ms. Barron’s Attendance Challenge (hitting 99% attendance!), and our 2nd Grade rocked 100% PERFECT attendance across the entire grade level on their bonus day!

💇‍♀️ Crazy Hair Day: We showed up in style to celebrate Attendance Month with gravity-defying hairdos and bright colors across all grade levels!

🎨 1st Grade Indoor Wellness: It was too hot for outdoor play, so 1st graders focused on kindness and fine motor skills by weaving custom friendship bracelets for each other.

🌍 3rd Grade Global Explorers: Students researched how kids travel to school in different countries in ELA, then tackled multiplication arrays in math!

🗺️ Geography & Fractions: Students explored landforms across the globe, while our 4th graders got to work classifying fractions.

🥗 Healthy Fuel: Everyone refueled with nutritious, delicious lunches to keep that brainpower going strong.

📚 Books in Backpacks: Check those bags tonight! Every student brought home books today as part of our push to get more reading into every home.

💬 Parents: Ask your student about their crazy hair, their new books, or their favorite part of the week in the comments below! Have a wonderful holiday weekend! ❤️
