LMHS Students interested in track and field should make plans now to attend this meeting next week. This meeting is for students only. There will be a parent meeting at the start of the season in January.

When Rita and James Holman moved to Louisville in 1971, they both began their coaching careers together. Coach Rita was hired at Butler High School as the physical education teacher and was asked by the principal to coach track. In the spring of 1972, she assumed her first job as Head Coach for Girls Track, and Coach James came on board as her assistant. He was teaching PE at Klondike Elementary School and had been told there were no high school coaching jobs available in football or basketball, his areas of expertise. In addition, there were only a few African-American teachers in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) before the merger. Teaching and coaching were learning experiences for the couple over the next several years as James began teaching at Eastern High School and coaching basketball and track.
