Award winning author Emily Bingham visited LCA last month to discuss her important book, "My Old Kentucky Home: The Astonishing Life and Reckoning of an Iconic American Song," with our middle school students, who will be performing the song at Churchill Downs.

Emily discussed the writing process and the important--and at times difficult--history of the song. She passed around historical artifacts relating to the song and its origins which the students discussed. We loved our visit with Emily!

We were so lucky to welcome City Council Member Ben-Reno Weber and show him around our school. We discussed how local government works, what city council members do, how local ordinances are passed, and the importance of community involvement in local initiatives.

Our students loved having their questions answered and their voices heard. We always enjoy welcoming community visitors to LCA to enhance the learning experiences of our students.

Our annual spring book fair begins soon

Use the code LCA at checkout in store or online and a portion of your purchases made 3/24 to 3/30 go directly to LCA!

"Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent ex*****on; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives -- choice, not chance, determines your destiny." -Aristotle

Matching rigorous academics with the arts and outdoor play can change the destiny of every child.

At Louisville Classical Academy, small classes and BIG ideas let children stay children a little longer, all while growing, learning and thriving.

This lovely group of humans (formally known as our third and fourth grade classes) took a field trip to the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts yesterday to see "Number the Stars," a rendition of Lois Lowry's 1989 work.

After finishing the book at school, both groups of children were awestruck seeing the story come to life. There were gasps, giggles, and maybe a few tears from the chaperones.

We encourage you to pick up a copy of the book and see this play if you're able.

At LCA, small classes just like these explore BIG ideas in and out of the classroom.

We are thrilled to share that our fabulous Latin teacher, Magistra Joanne Fairhurst, was selected among applicants from across the US as the winner of this year's Amy High Fellowship! It's truly an honor for her dedication and passion for teaching Latin to be recognized on a national level.

This program provides funding for Ms. Fairhurst to attend Rusticatio, a prestigious spoken-Latin immersion program, this summer. Attending Rusticatio will undoubtedly be a valuable experience for her, providing an opportunity to enhance her spoken-Latin skills and teaching methods.

Congratulations, Magistra!

Teacher spotlight: Claire Benver 🧮🧬📚

"I am thrilled for the opportunity to teach at Louisville Classical Academy. As an alumna of LCA myself, I know that a classical foundation can make all the difference in how a person learns to think and to look at the world through a lens of curiosity. I graduated with honors from the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering and went directly into the computer science field as a backend developer. But even as I worked through projects, I remembered how much I enjoyed teaching and hoped to make my way back to it eventually.

My goal is to foster an environment where students can not only learn their science facts, but also to look at the world through a scientific lens. The world is full of curiosities, and with every student bringing their own unique perspective, what better way to start to critically observe the workings of everything around us. I'm a science and math nerd at heart, and I hope I can impart a strong foundation for all of my students so they can go forth and think like a scientist!"

Now is the perfect time to come see what makes Louisville Classical Academy different than any other school in the city.

With small class sizes, low student-to-teacher ratios allow for more one-on-one attention in our classrooms.

Just a reminder that the Pegasus Playdate for this weekend has been canceled 🐴🪽❄️

Save the date for the Pegasus Night of your dreams 🐴🪽🫒

It's never too early to start planning, and that's just what our Pegasus Night team, in conjunction with the Parent Association and the LCA Board of Directors, has been working so diligently on.

While our theme is a surprise for a later announcement, the date will not be. We cordially invite you to join us for food, music, and an exceptional amount of fun on the evening of Saturday, March 2, 2024. Like last year, child care will be available for LCA families.

We can't wait to share more details soon!

We want to make a BIG impact tomorrow on Giving Tuesday

Drop off your non-perishable food and toiletries to either campus tomorrow in support of the Giving Pantry in front of the upper campus. Help us fill bellies and hearts right in your community!

Thank you, LCA community, for coming together to celebrate these beautiful little humans today at our annual Fall Feast.

We hope your bellies and hearts stay full all week and are so glad we got to spend the afternoon laughing and chatting with each of you!

Help us fill The Giving Pantry for Giving Tuesday, November 28th!

As we get closer to Thanksgiving, that also means that Giving Tuesday, a day for supporting non-profits in your area, is coming up.

This year, we'd like to stock the free food pantry called The Giving Pantry just outside of the parking lot on the upper campus. This box is maintained by a group of volunteers and this time of year is particularly hard with the weather changing.

Swipe through these images for more information about what is needed and where to donate.

Come see us today at Douglass Park from 2-4 p.m. for a free and open play date! Families and siblings are encouraged ❤️🐴🪽🍂

On Sunday, November 19 at 4 p.m., the Louisville Youth Orchestra will be performing their first concert of the season at the Brown Theatre.

This orchestra is made up of talented students from across the city and is a great and inexpensive way for you and your family to experience classical and contemporary music.

One of our own students, Rafa (6th grade) plays violin in the orchesta and we can't wait to watch him shine! Please join us for this special occasion if you are able.
