On February 23, 2015 I performed my Choral Conducting Recital for my Masters degree. In preparation for that performance my friend Barry Smith composed "Change" for us to premiere at that concert. My many friends in the Collegiate Chorale poured their heart into preparing for it.

Now 9 years later today, I have finally gotten around to releasing the video of that performance! I am so thankful for the time and passion that Barry put into this composition, for my choir friends who were always so supportive of me and the other conducting graduate students still learning and growing together, and especially for Dr. Kent Hatteberg and his patience and guidance through that chapter of my life.

It was an honor to open my studio for Recording With Josh to use to record and produce this album while we were all in Louisville. It is EXCELLENT! He did a wonderful job with the production and the quartets’ music selections and performances are so enjoyable. There are still 2 days from the time of this posting to order your copy! Don’t miss out.

Artwork of KBTB4 by Rebecca Adams!

Few things about KBTB4:

There's still time left to back the project on the kickstarter. For those of you who are Jefe Maximos/Jefeist of Maximos, check your email for a message from me. If you're a sponsor and haven't selected a slot yet, don't worry, I'm going through the list, it's just taking a bit more time than anticipated.

Thank you to Drew and Kris Hawkins Wheaton for being amazing hosts and letting me use their space and home to record the album. Thank you to the quartets who signed on, you are the sound of Kicking Back To Barbershop. They're microphones, not magic wands - all of your work behind the scenes is a slice of sound that is KBTB, and what goes to the kiddos of 2024's NextGen quartets.

Lastly I want to thank my partner, Rebecca Devereaux for capturing video and editing all the teasers. You've always supported me and this project. You've seen every emotion leading up to the kickstarter, the self doubt, the happiness, and the stress. You are an amazing person and everyone who knows you knows it too.

My Story

I have been recording learning tracks since 2004. While most of my work is barbershop, I have also created learning tracks for a number of choral pieces and, recently, have begun creating learning tracks for contemporary a ca****la arrangements.

I’ve been teaching private voice lessons since 2013, and hav helped many men and women, children and adults, to find and strengthen their voices.

I am also an established coach in both the barbershop and a ca****la genres, focusing mostly on vocal technique, tone quality, and tuning, but also adept at song interpretation and visual and emotional performance techniques.

Since 2015 I have been a live sound engineer for all local Louisville a ca****la groups, and have since been trained by Tony Huerta (Take 6, Manhattan Transfer) to do much more than a ca****la sound. I am available for your next concert!
