Most success is built long before anyone notices it.

It happens in the quiet decisions to prepare, practice, learn, and keep going when there is no recognition or immediate reward.

People may eventually see the result. You will know it was built through the habits you practiced when nobody was watching.

Who is your first enemy, opponent as a martial artist ? As a Kung Fu , Ving Tsun practitioner ?!
Would you believe me if I said it was yourself ?
It is.
Your discipline, your motivation, your health, your conditioning are all you.. sure there are outside forces working against you , but you have to face yourself first .
Sigung Moy Yat , repeated this often by saying , " It takes a spiritual person to practice King Fu". He wasn't talking about religion , or belief systems , he was talking about heart more specifically Bhudda Heart. Didn't mean you had to be Bhuddist either ., just meant you had to be self motivated , disciplined , compassionate, and diligent first for yourself if you couldn't fix and maintain yourself , you could t help anyone else out, and definitely would be your own obstacle in learning your Kung Fu.

The first battle with yourself is just committing to study , and signing up at the school Then you battle everyday .... against your ego and excuses.

Never give up You will have results.

Sometimes I think we spend too much time asking which martial art would win a fight, and not enough time asking what martial arts are supposed to teach us.

When I trained in Taekwondo, part of our training was learning discipline and responsibility alongside the techniques. We were taught that martial arts weren’t something to use outside the dojang simply to show off, intimidate people or prove how tough we were.

Yet online, so much martial arts discussion seems obsessed with “Would this work in a real fight?” “My style beats your style.” “That would never work on me.”

Don't get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with pressure-testing what we train and discussing effectiveness. But if learning how to fight only makes us more eager to fight, have we really learned the art?

I think that is what Ip Man meant by this quote. Use martial arts to build yourself up in confidence, strength, health and capability. That is the best thing we can do for humanity - becoming strong in mind body and spirit.

What do you think? Has modern martial arts culture become too focused on proving which style or fighter is superior?

Remember that old commercial , Strong enough for a man made by a Woman ? Ving Tsun is credited to Abbess Ng Mui , who was not only one of the Venerable Five from Shaolin Temple but Ving Tsun 's Sifu. She streamlined the Art of Intervention , martial art based on what actually worked on the battlefield and in real combat, taught in the 36th Chamber. Maybe it's a myth , maybe it's the truth. Either way women learn Ving Tsun , I would say faster then men when they train with us ..... There are so many martial arts to train and they are all great , but how many are really passed on by women ?
Either way , having Tsun is practical, efficient and is based on human anatomy and physics ... Not God's , spirits , or animals or even gender. Come train with us see how it works . See how you can benefit from it , both for the martial arts and health benefits.

A practitioner needs to practice at home as well as the kwoon
100 arm movements or hand strikes equal to the amount of months you have been in training, also at least a quarter of the same amount of leg movements as you have done in arm movements. 10 of each form you know. Yes. It's very serious but it's your kung fu.
So somebody who just started should do 10 Sil Nim Tao , and 100 punches and maybe a set of front kicks and side kicks.
Someone who has been training a year , well you have a lot to work on.
