Attention all teens! Like to roll the dice? Shuffle some cards? Move pieces strategically across the board? Whether you’re into Magic, The Gathering, Settlers of Catan, or old classics like Backgammon, we have a place for you and your friends to get your tabletop game on. Happy Birthday Hayao Miyazaki!

Happy 73rd birthday to film director and animator Hayao Miyazaki! Since he co-founded Studio Ghibli in 1985, the Oscar-winning Japanese film director Hayao Miyazaki has produced a series of highly acclaimed animated movies, most of which star strong and independent girls or young women who use their wits and courage to save the day.

As Miyazaki explained in an interview, "Many of my movies have strong female leads -- brave, self-sufficient girls that don't think twice about fighting for what they believe in with all their heart. They'll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a savior. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man."

Miyazaki's thought-provoking films range from very fanciful ones such as "Kiki's Delivery Service" and "Ponyo" appropriate for very young children to ones like "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" that address darker themes such as war and environmental degradation and, as such, are more appropriate for older children and teens. In general, Miyazaki has stated that he rejects simplistic stereotypes of good and evil and prefers to show children a positive world view.

This past September, Miyazaki, who is often compared to Walt Disney for his tremendous influence on animated film, announced his plans to retire.
