Getting this response when suggesting reading this summer?
Summer can make reading struggles easier to spot. ☀️📚
When school is out, the pressure is lower.
No nightly homework folder.
No spelling test on Friday.
No teacher reminding them to finish the chapter.
But if your child is still avoiding reading, choosing only the easiest books, guessing at words, or melting down when you suggest “just 10 minutes,” it may not be laziness.
Reading may just be harder than it looks.
For some kids, reading takes so much effort that avoidance becomes their way of protecting themselves from frustration.
They are not trying to give you a hard time.
They may be having a hard time.
Summer is a great time to find out what is really getting in the way.
At Langsford, we help identify the root cause of reading struggles and create a personalized plan to help your child build skills, confidence, and momentum before the next school year.

A past Langsford parent recently shared a full-circle moment that moved our whole team. 💚
When their daughter was in first and second grade, she had a strong vocabulary and a great memory, but reading still was not clicking.
Her teachers could not figure out why.
She was starting to fall behind.
Her family needed answers.
At Langsford, she received patient, skilled reading and comprehension support that helped her build the skills she needed.
And just as importantly, she had fun while learning.
Years later, that same student has now graduated from college with extraordinary academic accomplishments.
What an incredible reminder:
Early reading struggles do not define a child’s future.
With the right support, children can build confidence, catch up, and go on to do amazing things.

For some kids, the future feels too far away to motivate them.
“Read every day this week and we’ll do something fun on Friday.”
That sounds reasonable.
But for some children, Friday feels like forever away.
Especially if reading feels hard right now.
When a child struggles with attention, executive function, or reading confidence, long-term rewards may not be enough to help them start.
They may need something smaller.
Sooner.
More concrete.
Try shifting from:
“Read all week and you’ll earn a reward.”
To:
“Read for 10 minutes, then you choose the next activity.”
Or:
“I’ll read one page, then you read one page.”
Summer reading works best when it feels doable.
Not overwhelming.
Not far away.
Not like one more thing your child can fail at.
At Langsford, we help families understand what is really getting in the way of reading progress, so kids can build skills and confidence that last.

Every ceiling tile at Langsford tells a story 💚
Not just of reading growth…
but of persistence, confidence, and hard-earned progress.
This signature represents a child who kept going even when reading felt frustrating.
A student who worked through challenges.
A family who supported them every step of the way.
These are some of our favorite moments to celebrate because we know what they really mean:
Reading that feels easier.
Spelling that finally starts to stick.
A child who feels proud of themselves again.
Another ceiling tile.
More confident readers. 🎉

As the school year wraps up, many parents are seeing the same thing:
“Spelling could be better.”
But here’s what most people don’t realize…
👉 Spelling isn’t just spelling.
It’s one of the clearest indicators of how your child is processing reading and language.
A child can:
✔️ Pass spelling tests
✔️ Get decent grades
…but still be working much harder than they should be underneath.
When you look at:
• Writing samples
• Report cards
• Everyday spelling
You start to see the full picture.
And for many families, that picture finally explains why things have felt harder than they should.
With summer around the corner, this is a powerful moment to step in and make real progress.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women whose sacrifice made these freedoms and opportunities possible. 🇺🇸
As Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, many families are looking forward to slower schedules, more time together, and a well-earned break. ☀️
And for some children, summer can also become the chance for a fresh start with reading. 💚
Without the pressure of homework, tests, and packed school schedules, kids often have the space to focus on the foundational skills that make reading and spelling easier.
Confidence grows.
Frustration starts to fade.
And things finally begin to click.
Wishing your family a meaningful and peaceful Memorial Day weekend.
