Final Day in DC! We slept in a bit and made a final stop at the American History Museum before we had to leave DC. Proud of these girls and how they represented our school! They competed with students from across the country, met lots of new people, and experienced lots of firsts. We’ve eaten a lot of good food, had a lot of laughs, and walked over 78,000 steps since Sunday! (almost 23,000 of them were in one day!) While we had a great time, we are all ready to be home!

DC Day 5! The State Officers had a tour of the Capitol that included Senator Durbin’s office and both the House and Senate galleries! The rest of our group went to the Holocaust Museum. We then tried to Beat the Bomb, and unfortunately fell short by just a bit. We finished the night with the general session and dinner at Yardbird. Unfortunately none of them placed in the top ten, but I’m still so proud of them! Tomorrow we head home!

DC day 3️⃣❤️

We started our morning off today with a tour of the Capitol building. We learned many things about the history of the Senate and the House. After listening to our national officer candidate speeches and letting our state officer Briley and her team do the judging, we walked around DC to see some monuments. We saw the Washington Monument, the WWll Memorial, the MLK Jr. Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial (the beautiful view from afar), the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Wall, and Women of Vietnam. Lots of walking today, but there was so much to see!

Day 2 Photo Dump - First ride on the Metro train, Arlington National Cemetery- Kennedy Eternal Flame, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (changing of the guard and wreath ceremony), and Arlington House, American History Museum, and the first general session with keynote from Magie Cook. (Mrs Ruesken and I might have been more excited with the American History Museum than the girls. We got to see the First Lady dress and China exhibit and Julia Child’s kitchen!) It’s been a great day, and we’re tired but happy.

Last night included dinner at Giordano’s, the World War I Memorial, the Treasury Building, and The White House.

We are on our way to Washington DC for a week at National FCCLA Conference. All four girls will compete on Wednesday representing Illinois in each of their projects. Briley will also represent North Clay and Illinois FCCLA as a state officer. Stay tuned for daily photo dumps and updates!
