Sanders Elementary

Sanders Elementary Sanders Elementary is a Kindergarten to 5th grade school that serves the students and community on the southwest side of Jefferson County.

Sanders Elementary Mission Statement - To educate students to proficiency through excellence in teaching and equal access to learning. Sanders Elementary Vision - Sanders Elementary will set the standard as Kentucky's most effective school by partnering self-worth, individual learning initiative, and positive proficient practice in instruction; resulting in academic proficiency and educational equity for all students. Sanders Elementary Philosophy -

We believe...
That each person at Sanders is a unique individual and that the dignity of every person is to be maintained and respected at all times. That we have the responsibility to provide learning opportunities to meet the intellectual, physical, social, and personal development needs of our students. That all students can learn best in a safe, orderly, and positive school environment. That all students can learn and that effort is as important as ability. That students, staff, parents, and community members are all members of the school team. That decisions are to be made in the spirit of cooperation through a shared decision-making process. (SBDM)
That optimal learning occurs when there are partnerships between the school, family, and community. That each person at Sanders can develop a tolerance for change, will be able to see patterns and order in the change, and will be prepared to adjust to change effectively. That students need to understand their national heritage and the privileges and responsibilities of democracy. That there is a value and significance in our diverse cultures and that all persons need to develop an understanding and appreciation of our multicultural society. That it is our responsibility to guide every student to become a competent, caring, projective, responsible individual and a person who is commited to continue learning throughout life. That our philosophy of education must be continally evaluated as the needs of our school, community, and the world around us change.

🗣️Food resources available today in Louisville.👇

It’s Wednesday, August 26, and today’s options include several grocery pantries along with free prepared meals. Please check any eligibility requirements and hours before heading out as these are subject to change.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Café at 911 S. Brook Street serves breakfast from 6:45 a.m. until 7:30 a.m., so breakfast begins shortly this morning. Dinner is served later at 4:45 p.m. for women and children, followed by men at 5:15 p.m. The meals are available to anyone who is hungry. Call 502-671-4900 with questions.

Highlands Community Ministries at 1228 E. Breckinridge Street opens its food pantry from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. today. The pantry serves residents of ZIP codes 40204, 40205 and 40218. Households can receive a regular food order once per month and fresh produce weekly. Anyone dealing with an emergency food situation can call 502-451-3695, extension 260. Highlands Community Ministries also operates a Meals on Wheels program for qualifying older adults in its service area. Call 502-451-3695, extension 250, for information about that program.

Neighborhood House Emergency Food Pantry at 201 N. 25th Street is listed with food assistance from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. today. The pantry serves income-eligible Kentucky residents from all ZIP codes, and a photo ID is required. Call 502-774-2322 if you need to confirm availability before traveling.

Franciscan Kitchen at 748 S. Preston Street serves lunch from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. today. Their current August calendar specifically confirms lunch service for Wednesday, August 26. Call 502-589-0140 with questions.

St. Vincent de Paul’s Open Hand Kitchen at 1026 S. Jackson Street serves lunch at noon and dinner at 5:00 p.m. Meals are free and available every day of the year to anyone who comes through the doors.

The Cathedral of the Assumption’s Daily Lunch Program, commonly known as Bologna Alley, serves lunch from 12:15 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at 404 Cathedral Way. The program serves lunch every day for people experiencing homelessness and others living on low incomes.

South Louisville Community Ministries at 415 1/2 W. Ashland Avenue also has diapers, formula and other baby items available today from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. No appointment is required for baby supplies. Bring an ID and a piece of mail dated within the last 30 days. If you are over 60, homebound and need meals delivered, South Louisville Community Ministries directs people to KIPDA at 502-266-5571 for the required assessment.

Dare to Care does not have a mobile pantry scheduled in Louisville today. The two mobile pantries on today’s official calendar are outside Jefferson County, one in Trimble County and one through Northern Kentucky Community Action. Dare to Care can still help locate pantry options near where someone lives or is staying by calling 502-966-3821. That number is for finding food resources and should not be treated as a general grocery-delivery service.

For people age 60 or older who are homebound, unable to prepare meals, have no one available to cook for them or cannot attend a congregate meal site, Louisville Metro’s Home Delivered Meals program may provide ongoing assistance. Call KIPDA’s Aging and Disability Resource Center at 502-266-5571 to begin the referral and assessment process. This is not immediate same-day delivery.
