We're so excited to have Kayla Griffen join us to perform the National Anthem as we kick off this year's event!

About Kayla:

Kayla Griffen is a country singer-songwriter born in Louisville, Kentucky, on her mother’s birthday and raised in the small town of Austin, Indiana. She began singing and playing guitar as a child, performing gospel music with her father before discovering a passion for songwriting. Influenced by artists like Miranda Lambert, Kayla writes honest, heartfelt songs about life, love, and loss.

Kayla began performing the National Anthem at the age of six after being asked by her first-grade music teacher. Since then, she has performed at countless ceremonial and sporting events, including for the Louisville Bats and Cincinnati Reds. She has also dedicated her talent to honoring local veterans every Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Throughout her career, Kayla has shared the stage with artists including Gabby Barrett, Martina McBride, Deana Carter, Shenandoah, BlackHawk and more.

She has also performed in the Premium Lounge at the KFC Yum! Center before concerts such as Morgan Wallen, Shania Twain, Jason Aldean, and many more. As her career continues to grow, Kayla remains grounded in her faith, patriotism, and country roots.

J. Hunter Newton (March 1996 – August 2026)

Jeffrey Hunter Newton, 30 of Louisville passed away on August 3, 2026

He was born in Louisville in 1996 to Jeffrey and Jeri Newton. Hunter attended Trinity Catholic School before following in his parents’ footsteps and joining the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department.

Throughout his career with the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department, Hunter approached every shift with integrity and heart. Known for his steady presence and willingness to step forward when others stepped back, he embodied the very best of public service.

Whether he was responding to a crisis, mentoring younger officers, or simply checking in on a neighbor, he carried himself stoically, with humility and purpose. He was an extremely important member of his squad and community, willing to give
what was necessary to protect both.

Hunter was preceded in death by his grandparents Bill Pezzarossi, Marcella and Herbert Newton, and is survived by his parents Jeffrey and Jeri, and his brother Nick.

A private service for family will be held at 8am at Southeast Christian followed by an FOP service at 9am.

The Family of Officer Newton has requested any donations made in memory of Officer Newton be sent to The Louisville Metro Police Foundation
