Sacred Heart Preschool - Official Page

Sacred Heart Preschool - Official Page Supported by the best practices in preschool education, Sacred Heart Preschool offers a holistic foundation for lifelong learning.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) Early Years school, our fundamental approach is focused on IB’s dynamic cycle of inquiry, action, and reflection. Our curriculum is student-centered and promotes each student’s social, emotional, academic, spiritual, and physical growth. Children are empowered to explore their curiosities with a strong emphasis on problem-solving, divergent thinking, cooperative group work, and social responsibility. The principles of IB PYP are informed by best practices in education. Student agency is honored, and children are provided with opportunities to experience freedom and overcome challenges. At Sacred Heart Preschool, we look forward to inspiring a lifetime love of learning in your child as we prepare each for success in preschool, kindergarten, and beyond! Sacred Heart Schools is proud to recognize Akure and Charles Paradis as the 2026 recipients of the Laurel Award, one of Sacred Heart's highest honors, presented each year during the Sacred Heart Society Dinner. Since 2002, the Laurel Award has been awarded to individuals whose generosity and commitment embody the mission and values of Sacred Heart, strengthening our community in profound and lasting ways.

The award is named after the laurel tree--a significant element of the Ursuline Coat of Arms. The laurel tree is strong, with deep roots and wide branches, much like the 149-year history of Sacred Heart Schools and reminiscent of the far-reaching impact of the Paradis's generosity. Akure and Charles are dedicated leaders, professionals, and passionate advocates for Ursuline education. They have served on the committee for the Sacred Heart Forever campaign, Charles has been an important member of the Sacred Heart Board of Trustees, and Akure is currently a key cabinet member of the Jean Frazier Leadership Institute. Most importantly, they are dedicated parents of four boys, volunteering and supporting their education at Sacred Heart Preschool, Sacred Heart School for the Arts, and Sacred Heart Model School.

We are deeply grateful to the hundreds of Sacred Heart Society members in Louisville and throughout the country who have been called to contribute to the legacy of Ursuline education and ensure that current students benefit from the transformative power of a Sacred Heart education.

Special thanks to SHMS student Briley Kate Sherwin '29 for leading us in prayer, Emma Marie Klein SHA '28 for her powerful reflection, and the past recipients of the Laurel Award who gathered for a photo with the Paradis family.

Thanks to all for supporting Sacred Heart Schools and continuing the mission of the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, living out the Core Values of Reverence, Service, Leadership and celebrating our shared Community.

“You have more need to serve others than they have to be served by you.” — St. Angela Merici

In this month's Heartlights newsletter, Sacred Heart Schools President Dr. Karen McNay highlights the Ursuline Core Value of Leadership and shares updates from our four campus schools.

"Our gifts may be different, and our leadership may look different, but St. Angela reminds us that we are all called to use what we have been given in service to one another. That is servant leadership." — Dr. McNay

Willow, Maple, and Dogwood classes have recently begun the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) program in the new Mustard Seed Atrium in the lower level of the Ursuline Motherhouse!

CGS, based on beloved Montessori methods, helps even the youngest children learn about God. Our preschoolers have fun exploring the new Atrium, engaging with hands-on, age-appropriate materials that communicate the essential themes of the Christian message. 🐑 ✝️🕊️
