From a reverent morning to a jubilant afternoon... students celebrated the colorful Hindu festival of #Holi this past Friday! The fun was shared with family members who joined our students in welcoming spring and honored the parting of ways with negative forces for a fresh start in the new season. Traditional #Waldorf crafts are often fun and enriching for children and adults alike! #WSL's Handwork curriculum is a favorite among students. According to Emerson Waldorf School "handwork brings balance between intellectual and movement activities, allowing students to experience the struggle, joy, and care required in the creative process. The rhythmic repetition of knitting and crocheting strengthens a child's concentration and hand-eye coordination."

Have you seen her? Henrietta Helm's mural was completed last spring in Louisville- but who was she? According to @wdrb_news she was among the first black students to attend public school in Louisville, and passed her teaching exam at only 17 years old. She devoted her life to expanding the accessibility of education and for that, we are grateful. #BlackHistoryMonth #henriettahelm #legacy #education #louisville

Lots of hands (even if they are little!) make light work!
We had so much fun making sandwiches for @feedlouisville this past Saturday. Families from our Early Childhood program joined us in our cafeteria despite the chilly weather to make nutritious food for our neighbors in need. We're looking forward to additional opportunities for our families to both connect with one another and provide mutual aid to our community!

Happy from the Waldorf School of Louisville, across from Seneca Park in Saint Matthews. We're welcomed back each week to our campus by our school rooster who was raised from a chick in one of our grades classrooms. He takes his job as king of the coop very seriously, and students just love visiting his enclosure!

“The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.” - Rudolf Steiner.

This weekend, is excited to kick off a series of community service days, centered around supporting 's houseless and food-insecure communities. We will gather in our commercial kitchen to prepare food for our neighbors in need. We're thrilled to be partnering with @feedlouisville , who does so much to support our city (and state!) by distributing around 3,000 meals every single week!

Why can't learning be beautiful, too? Part of the philosophy behind Waldorf education posits that children are more receptive to larger lessons if learned through stories and large pictures. This way, the curriculum is extended off the page or beyond spoken word into a world of dazzling, larger than life images for children to experience. Happy Fat Tuesday from and congratulations to 2nd Grade Teacher, Casey Bayne, who chose the slice with the baby inside! On Mardi Gras, the practice of eating a King Cake with a toy baby baked within travelled to the US by way of France around 1870. Whoever eats the slice with the baby becomes the "King" and is bound by tradition to supply the King Cake for the Mardi Gras gathering the following year!
