On July 30th, the Planning Information Exchange will host a webinar titled "Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience". This webinar will provide an overview of the Rockefeller/Arup definition of resilience and offer a community case study including strategies, approaches, tools, and lessons learned from the front lines on how one community began to address climate change.

Planning Information Exchange Information exchange forums are an increasingly common and useful way to encourage peer-to-peer learning and exchange of information. With advances in web-based meetings and seminars, an information exchange forum can reach a national and even international audience.

Once awarded, this program will fund resilience focused projects in areas most vulnerable to hazard events. Through the HUD Sustainable Communities Initiative, the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) Research Foundation recently released an issue brief titled: "Creating Opportunity and Prosperity Through Strengthening Rural-Urban Connections."

Highlighted within are two Kentucky initiatives: One on increasing broadband access through the The Peoples Rural Telephone Cooperative and another statewide approach for increasing disaster resilience through the Community Hazard Assessment and Mitigation Planning System (CHAMPS); to which CHR played a vital role in.

Natural Disaster Mitigation & Response - University of Kentucky Crisis Management and Preparedness The University of Kentucky Department of Crisis Management and Preparedness created a Hazard Mitigation Plan that outlines 13 emergencies, how those emergencies could affect the campus community, and how the university would respond to those emergencies.

Cardinals will be disguised as Wildcats tomorrow (gasp!) as CHR presents at the University of Kentucky for their final Mitigation Plan Update meeting. As states and communities work to propose future programming for HUD's National Disaster Resilience Competition, for several years Kentucky has been working on just that; part of which includes - 'Developing a Framework for State and Local Community Recovery Planning'. We are thrilled that our statewide framework for short- and long-term community recovery is included in a recent special issue of JAPA on 'Planning for Disaster Recovery'. More importantly, we hope this applied framework is helpful for other communities as they work to become more resilient. Cheers!
