Remembering Rick Folden

Portland Christian School mourns the passing of Richard "Rick" Folden Jr., who went home to be with his Heavenly Father on September 14, 2026, at the age of 70.

For more than three decades, Rick was Portland Christian. He came here and never really left. Rick served as Head of Maintenance, bus driver, Director of Development, Director of Facilities, Director of Safety and Security, and Athletic Director. If something needed doing at PCS, Rick did it.

On the field and the court, he built a legacy few will ever match. He is the all-time winningest coach in both softball and baseball at PCS, leading the baseball program to six District Championships. He also coached girls basketball and volleyball, bringing home another District title. His work earned him induction into the Metro Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, the Honorary Distinguished Alumni Award from PCS, and recognition as a Kentucky Colonel.

But Rick's ministry went far beyond athletics. He was a song leader, a fill-in choir director, a chapel speaker, and the leader of our school praise team. He loved to worship, and he brought that love into our hallways.

Ask any of the countless young men and women he mentored, and they won't lead with the wins. They'll tell you about a man who showed up, who noticed them, who expected more from them because he believed they had more to give.

Rick is survived by his wife Janet, his mother Betty, his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren — and by generations of PCS students who called him Coach.

Visitation: Thursday, September 17, 3:00–8:00 PM, and Friday, September 18, 9:00–11:00 AM at Love Funeral Home, 14345 Green Street NE, Palmyra, IN.

Funeral Service: Friday, September 18, at 11:00 AM at Love Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Portland Christian School — a final testimony to where his heart was.

September 4th was another fantastic day at the The Sporting Club at the Farm for Clay Breakers! 47 participants came together ready to break some clays and support PCS.

One of our favorite traditions is seeing our PCS Seniors introduce their Kindergarten buddies at our All-School Assembly. Year 1 for one, final year for the other. Full circle moments like this are why we love this place!

Huge thanks to the 30 dads who traded in their Saturday morning to work on some campus improvement projects. We're officially ready to welcome the rest of the PCS community back to campus - thanks to you!

That's what Berea College said to Kenzley French when they named her the Dr. Samuel Hurst Scholar Award recipient - one of their most competitive and prestigious honors.

Kenzley is a rising PCS senior and the first in her family to attend college. The award covers her full tuition - more than $260,000 over four years - in recognition of her resilience, perseverance, and grit 💪
