This is the kit I carried on the field at D-day Conneaut this year. Minus my dummy gr***de as I lost it in the battle… Fs in the chat gents. But this is everything is else.
This layout shows what a private in the 115th IR of the 29th ID would’ve carried on 6, June, 1944.
Uniform:
M1941 field jacket
M1937 wool shirt
M1937 wool trousers
Open face style trouser belt (original buckle hehe)
Type 2 service shoes
A frame style under shirt (not pictured)
Field gear, weapons, ammo:
U.S. Rifle Cal .30 M1 (M1 Garand) chambered in .30-06. Mine is a SA 1944 dated rifle
M1 Helmet
M1923 cartridge belt loaded with .30-06 blanks (80rds)
M1924 first aid pouch
M1910 canteen & canteen cover
M1928 haversack
M1926 life preserver belt
M7 rubberized gas mask bag
GP (general purpose) bag
2x cloth bandoliers loaded with .30-06 blanks (96rds total)
Airborne first aid packet
M1910 T handle shovel & carrier
M1 bayonet
M1938 Leggings
Gas detection Brassard
Personal items:
Notebook
Letters from home
Zippo lighter
Cigarette box

This was the standard kit for US troops in the 29th landing on D-day. It all has its flaws but it’s what they had.

I have found one! This is w US M1926 life preserver it is the life reserve used by US infantry forces during the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944. They are rare, what’s even more rare is to have them with the belt clip intact and as a bonus, mine came with an original cardboard box as well!! I’m very pleased with my latest purchase

I am making great progress on my WW2 field directors display. I have now have the mannequin for the display, I’m waiting on the stand as well as the neck tie. Plus a few other odds and ends but it’s coming together great! I will have it on display at the Kentucky state fair this year. Stay tuned folks.

81 years today troops of the allied expeditionary force landed in the five beaches of Normandy France. In an event now known as “D-Day”. D-day was the force push in the liberation of France and is considered to be the catalyst for ending the war in Europe.
I’ve 4 thousand allowed troops paid the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I may live without the rule of tyranny today.

Pvt Simon Peter, 38th Indiana Co. E, KIA at the battle of Perryville KY on October the 8th 1862. My fifth great grandfather.
Memorial Day is the day we use to honor those who have fallen while serving this country. Those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that me and you can live free like we do today.
160 years ago today our nations greatest conflict came to an end.
On April the 9th 1865 Robert E. Lee formally surrendered to U.S. Grant ending the civil war.
After 4 years of brutal fighting, across thousands & thousands of acres, and nearly 700,000 Americans dead, the war between the states ended.
Today we look back on the civil war for many reasons. It is widely considered to be the first real “modern” war. The war ended the demon that is slavery in the U.S., and was the catalyst that pathed the way for equal rights for white and African Americans combined.
It forged a generation, and for better or worse is a defining moment in our history.

Went and picked these up today. Two shirts, two pairs of trousers, and a Garrison cap from the Kentucky military Institute. These are post World War II uniforms from the 50s/60s. They are the most substantial KMI memorabilia I have found to date!!! I’ve been searching for months and months and months for uniforms from the Institute and finally, I have something to show for it!!
