For anyone curious about Gunnar Deatherage, the designer joining us this Fall as a Visiting Artist with our Experimental Fashion program, his artist profile is featured in the June "Men's Volume" issue of Voice-Tribune.
More about Gunnar:
Gunnar Deatherage is a fashion and costume designer, patternmaker, and digital creator known for transforming historical inspiration into theatrical, modern design. First introduced through Project Runway and Project Runway All Stars, Gunnar has since built a distinctive world of romantic silhouettes, couture-minded construction, and cinematic storytelling. His custom work has been worn by artists including Lady Gaga, Shakira, Chappell Roan, Lainey Wilson, and Sierra Ferrell, with designs appearing on stages and screens from Saturday Night Live to The Tonight Show.
Alongside his costume and celebrity work, Gunnar has become a leading voice in the online sewing community, reaching over 6 million followers across social media. Through Gunnar Deatherage Patterns and his Patreon community, he creates size-inclusive sewing patterns and tutorials that invite home sewists into the process behind dramatic, historically inspired design. Blending costume, couture, education, and digital storytelling, Gunnar has carved out a space entirely his own.
During his time on campus, Gunnar will be part of an exhibit brought to you by our Experimental Fashion program, led by Chair and artist, Vincent Tiley.
