Thanks so much to Tim Smallwood, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, for speaking to the students in Professor Chris Pickering’s NURS 674 Nurse Practitioner Clinical Practicum II course!
This class is integral in preparing our NP students to be collaborative, holistic primary health care providers. Enabling students to meet and learn from clinicians like Dr. Smallwood — and to dive deeply into different specialties — ensures our grads are prepared to provide exemplary, expert care to every patient.
What an incredible opportunity to step out of the clinic and into the classroom!
I had the privilege of serving as a guest lecturer at Spalding University in Louisville, sharing my passion for dermatology with the next generation of healthcare providers.
Dermatologic conditions are among the most common concerns patients bring to primary care, yet access to specialized dermatologic care can still be a challenge—especially in many of our Kentucky communities. Education is one of the ways we can help bridge that gap.
By giving future providers the tools to recognize, evaluate, treat, and appropriately refer common skin conditions, we can improve access to care and ultimately improve outcomes for our patients.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned through my own journey in dermatology and to invest in future providers. Growing dermatology knowledge beyond the walls of a dermatology clinic means more patients can get the care they need, when they need it.
Thank you, Spalding University, for having me! I’m already looking forward to the next opportunity to teach, learn, and advocate for better access to dermatologic care across Kentucky.
