The annual University of Louisville Faculty Gala is this Friday. I’m excited to premiere Two Young Fish by my good friend and colleague Matthew Cochran.

The work is based on a commencement speech by David Foster Wallace titled “This is Water.” This speech had a profound impact on me, as has Matt’s beautiful new piece. The full audio and transcript are below. Check out the Hunter Thompson piece referenced in the article as well.

I can’t wait to hear my amazing colleagues perform as well in one of the best concerts of our season. Join us in person at 7:30 Friday, or stream it on the UofL YouTube channel if you can be there in person.

David Foster Wallace's remarkable 2005 commencement speech, this is water, is a timeless trove of wisdom for living a meaningful life. Here is a full transcript along with audio.
