Over the past several weeks, our Perry teachers have been hard at work in Professional Learning Communities—or PLCs. These collaborative meetings give our teachers dedicated time to focus on two important practices: instructional internalization and student-data analysis.
During internalization, teachers “peel back the layers” of reading and math units and lessons to develop a deeper understanding of the standards, learning targets, tasks, assessments, and overall progression of learning. This intellectual preparation helps our teachers enter the classroom knowing not only what they are teaching, but why they are teaching it and how each lesson builds toward student mastery.
During data analysis, teachers examine evidence of student learning, celebrate growth, identify needs, and determine the most effective next instructional steps. They come prepared to engage in meaningful conversations, collaborate with their colleagues, and make decisions centered on student success.
