Yesterday we talked about Typing sessions, which is the best way to really nail down what your dominant Enneagram type (number) is. But for many people, that’s as far as they take the Enneagram.

You may home in on your Type and enjoy talking about your hardwiring with others, but if you only scratch the surface of the Enneagram so that you can talk about your “number” around the water cooler, you are missing out on some amazing growth opportunities!

This use of the Enneagram often leads to stereotypes of saying things like this:

“Oh, you’re such an 8.”

“That’s just what a 2 would say.”

The Enneagram is more than just a label or a party trick.

That’s why I offer 5 session Discovery packages. In these one hour sessions, we will walk through all the facets of your particular type using tailor-made worksheets. We will dig down deep into how that type is manifested in your life.

You see, Not all type 1s are the same. It would be crazy to think that every human on the planet could be boiled down into just 9 types. The truth is the types are like a color wheel. While there are four primary colors, there are limitless variations and shades and hues! Taking the time for this type of self-discovery pays incredible dividends in all your relationships, in your personal growth, and in helping you make and reach your goals!

When I discovered that I’m a Type 1, it gave me so much insight and a deeper understanding of my personality and the unique way I’m wired. I was seeing a counselor at the time who administered a written test for the Enneagram. When I took it, I tested as a 7, but her expertise in the Enneagram and all its ins and outs helped me to realize that I am actually a type 1.

Written tests are a great starting point, but they are only about 60-80% accurate. There are all kinds of factors that can skew the results of a written test. As your coach, I can help you really drill down between your top two main types during a Typing session! These one hour sessions are fun and insightful, and they help get you moving towards your goals for growth!

There are lots of Enneagram tests offered online. Some are free.

Some are not.

Interested? Why don’t you take a test today and then come back and drop your type in the comments! If you already know your type, share below!

And if you’re dying to know more, don’t hesitate to reach out! I love helping people break free from lies, shame and old ways of doing things as they learn more about the unique way God created them.

It’s been 10 years since I started picking a word for the year. I don’t do well with resolutions. As a type 1, I am all or nothing…and I usually end up on the “nothing” end of my resolutions and then beat myself up relentlessly for failing to keep them.
Words are directional. They are more flexible and forgiving. They help me stay focused on my “why” and help me make decisions about what I should commit my time and energy to that year. They help me remember that each new year is a new season. My kids are not the same. The world is not the same. I am not the same. So how will I learn and grow and serve in this current season?
The word that has been humming in my spirit for months now is “Grounded.” It’s like everything within me has been crying out to be connected to the earth, to the natural order and rhythms God has woven into his perfect design.
For me, this means putting down roots.
My mother-in-law, years ago, gave me a bundle of pencils that had four words stamped on them, “Bloom where you’re planted.”At the time, I’m sure I was full of young energy and wonderlust and a strong Type 1 sense of dissatisfaction. Nowadays, I want to spend my time connecting to those who are closest to me in proximity. As the world is getting bigger and more accessible, I am making my world smaller. I want to be rooted and connected in deep and meaningful ways to the community that I live in.
Secondly, it means living a life of natural rhythms. For years I functioned at break-neck speeds: overworked, over-committed, exhausted. I moved into each new season carrying with me all the expectations and responsibilities from the season before. I barely slept because if I wasn’t working, I was thinking of all the work that needed to be done, and trust me, it was never done. My schedule ran me instead of the other way around. And so, being “Grounded” means living within the boundaries of my 24 hrs, and my limited energy. Focusing more on quality over quantity, and building routines into my everyday life.
Lastly, I will embrace each season nature has to offer, each season of parenting, each season in my marriage. I will embrace the light that nature has given me to work and play, and the darkness it has given me for rest and reflection and relaxation. I will find delight in the beauty of a winter snowfall and icicles on the trees, and in the crispy coolness of Fall, and in the bursting forth of life and color in Spring; and I will bathe in the warmth of sunny summer days. I will not long for days gone by or better days to come, but will live fully in the present day.
Grounded. Connected. Thankful.
What about you?

The winter solstice, which occurred yesterday, is also aptly called the hibernal solstice. It occurs when either of Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. For this reason, it is also called the shortest day and the longest night.
I don’t know about you, but I am not a night person. I’m a bit like Ana in the movie, Frozen, “The sun’s awake, so I’m awake!” And conversely, if the sun is asleep, I want to be too. It feels especially frustrating to try and push myself to work or play when the world is dark. It can also feel sad and lonely. How fitting that Christ would burst onto the scene with his perfect Light during this especially dark time of the year. I’m thankful for the twinkling lights that break through these extended nights, and for warm fires and friends who huddle together inside and dispel the loneliness.

At this time of year, all of creation, plants and animals alike, are going deep underground for a long winter’s nap. This rest is necessary work for the season that follows: a season of blooming, birthing and flourishing! Nature seems to know what it means to embrace this dark season, to work with it instead of fighting against it.

During the cold and the dark of this upcoming winter season, I invite you to join me on a journey inward. God created natural rhythms for us to enjoy and embrace. This winter, will you take the time to embrace the stillness and to reflect on all that has come to pass this last year, and to dream and hope about what is to come? Will you take time to change your pace, to rest and to wonder?
I would love to be your guide as we explore the Truth of the Scriptures and use the tool of the Enneagram to help bring a deeper self awareness about who you are, why you think, feel and act in particular ways, and to enrich your most important relationships.
The Enneagram is not just a fun personality test. It is a unique resource to help you and others understand your inner motivations, not just to slap a label on your outward behaviors. It will help you get to the root of Why you do what you do, and help you to understand the inner workings of those around you as well. If you are feeling restless or stuck as you go into 2023, consider signing up for some personal coaching and enter the new year with something better than hollow resolutions: a fresh perspective!

I really shouldn’t say we saved the best for last, because clearly, each Type has SO MUCH to offer! But out of all the types, the Type 9 may be the easiest to get along with, and the least likely to think they have anything to offer.
Type 9s are unifiers, and at their best, they reflect back to the world the incredible and true PEACE of God.These gentle people are Easy-going, content, accepting of life and quite diplomatic. They bring to the world the gift of patience and open-mindedness. They are down to earth and reassuring people who seek connections that allow others to just BE. They have the unique ability to make people feel heard and valued. Everyone needs a Type 9 on their team to bring a little peace and harmony to the group, and a Type 9 in their life to offer up a daily dose of GRACE! What a gift!

One of the things I admire most about Type 8s is their inner Strength.

As very dynamic people, they choose to champion the fights of those who are oppressed. In the Enneagram world, we lovingly call them our “Snow Plows,” because they use their amazing strength and courage to plow a path on behalf of others. They are always on the side of justice and protection and can often be seen as the quintessential “Mama Bears.”

They are direct, confident, and assertive. While this can sometimes feel intimidating, more often than not, it is good. Like the Lion, Aslan, in “The Chronicles of Narnia,” Type 8s are not “safe,” but they are good. I definitely want a powerful, protective Type 8 on my side! What a gift!

Who couldn’t use a little more JOY in their lives? I know I could! And that is exactly what Type 7s have to offer to the world! Taking delight in life, these people focus on the best parts of themselves and others.
Enthusiastic, spontaneous and imaginative, these folks are endlessly optimistic and bring positivity and creativity to any and every situation! They are innovators, and not easily discouraged by failed attempts, which makes them quite resilient. They are entertaining, curious, engaging and playful, which makes them great friends and the life of any party! Their zest for life and appetite for adventure infuses Life and Energy into those around them. What a gift!

Loyal, trustworthy, honorable, supportive, practical, prepared, determined, cooperative, and dedicated. These are just a few of my favorite things about Type 6s! They are marked by their Faithfulness and Loyalty and always seek the better good of those to whom they have pledged their trust. They make great and loyal friends and co-workers because they are all about TEAM and work incredibly well with others! Though they often struggle with their “inner committee,” it gives them a unique ability to consider all sides and possible outcomes to a situation. And though they can often wrestle with anxiety, healthy Type 6s persevere and are known instead for being brave and heroic!

12/18/2022

Knowledge and Wisdom are a couple of my favorite things that Type 5s bring to the world. They pursue knowledge that is grounded in Truth and is practically beneficial to others. This type of sensibility leads them to truly meaningful engagement in the world.
Curious, insightful, rational, witty, observant, objective, and thorough, I am always thankful for my detailed and thoughtful Type 5 friends. They teach me to slow down and embrace silence and solitude. They also help me to go deep into a subject or thought, and not skim the surface. Type 5s are especially helpful to those of us who are more theoretical, big picture, idea generators. They help make our dreams a reality. What a gift!

12/17/2022

Type 4s are often known as “the artist” because they are praised for their Originality and Creativity. But at their core, Type 4s have an idealistic passion to make the world as beautiful as they imagine it could be. They are authentic, sensitive, perceptive and intuitive, empathetic, expressive, and compassionate. Type 4s offer to us the gift of presence and an incredible ability to sit with us in our pain. When they are at their best, they have the innate ability to find beauty in all things, even the hard stuff. What a gift!
