Rangeland Elementary Steps Up with Summer Boost Camp to Keep Learning Alive
In response to the cancellation of JCPS’s traditional Summer Backpack League program due to budget constraints, Elementary took action to ensure students continued receiving academic support during the summer months.
The school hosted a one-week Summer Boost Camp designed to provide intensive, structured instruction for students whose families responded to the enrollment opportunity. Throughout the week, students engaged in evidence-based literacy instruction using the UFLI Foundations program and strengthened their mathematical thinking through lessons from Illustrative Math.
Beyond academics, Rangeland Elementary remained committed to supporting the whole child. Students received breakfast, lunch, and daily recess, creating a positive and engaging environment for learning and growth.
On the final day of camp, each participating student was sent home with a bag of groceries generously coordinated by Family Resource Coordinator Michelle Skinner, helping extend support to families beyond the classroom.
Program Administrator Catherine Penning collected student work samples and analyzed pre- and post-assessment data throughout the week. The information gathered will help document student growth and further demonstrate the importance of providing academic support and enrichment opportunities during the summer months.
Rangeland Elementary is proud of the students, families, and staff who made this initiative a success and remains committed to ensuring every child has access to meaningful learning opportunities, even when resources are limited.
