The Louisburg High School Athletics Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Our third inductee is Thomas Riggan.

“Tommy” Riggan became the principal of Louisburg High School in the summer of 1968. He was immediately tasked with integrating the “new” Louisburg High School after legislation ended segregation at Louisburg. With over 1200 students, the school experienced a period of societal pressures in the late 1960s and 1970s marked by intense community resistance and protests. He unified the student body by treating every individual with unwavering equity and quietly using his own resources to help those in need.

Louisburg High School won 26 different conference championships while Tommy was at the helm as principal. The school won its only men’s basketball state championship in 1971, and the men’s team also finished as a state runner-up in 1980 and the women’s basketball team finished as a state runner-up in 1981. Tommy was passionate about sports and supporting student athletes, and he didn’t hesitate to let officials know when they missed a call.

Mr. Riggan will be inducted on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Louisburg Magnet High School. The banquet will be held at 6:00 p.m., and tickets will be $30. Tickets will be available near August 1. Please join us to honor the legacy of Mr. Thomas Riggan.

The Louisburg High School Athletics Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Our second inductee is Eddy Boyette.

Coach Eddy Boyette was the epitome of dedication, serving Franklin County through education and athletics for 52 years, including a defining tenure as a teacher, coach, and Athletic Director at Louisburg High School. His unwavering commitment to the school was mirrored by his impressive on-court success, which included leading the 1983–84 team to a regional runner-up finish and guiding the 1991–92 girls' basketball team to the state playoffs with a roster of only six players. Coach Boyette would end his career with over 250 victories.

Even after his formal retirement in 1997, he spent another 23 years giving back to the school community as a substitute teacher and New Teacher Mentor. Beyond the statistics, his strict standards of respect and warm demeanor left a profound, lasting impact on generations of students and staff. Ultimately, Coach Boyette transcended his professional role to become a deeply admired, unforgettable legend who felt like family to the Louisburg High School community.

Eddy will be inducted on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Louisburg Magnet High School. The banquet will be held at 6:00 p.m., and tickets will be $30. Tickets will be available near August 1. Please join us to honor the legacy of Coach Eddy Boyette.

The Louisburg High School Athletics Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the Hall of Fame Class of 2026. Our first inductee is Freddie Edwards.

Coach Edwards’ volleyball program became the standard of excellence in the state of North Carolina during his tenure. His teams captured state championships in 1988 and 1989, and earned five state runner-up finishes in 1986, 1990, 1992, 1993, and 1997. Coach amassed a final record 406–60. Over his last 14 seasons at LHS, only one team failed to reach the state’s Final Four.

Beyond the victories and accolades, Coach Edwards’ greatest legacy was the impact he made on the lives of his athletes. He worked tirelessly to identify and develop young talent, encouraging future players to attend LHS volleyball camps and discover their potential. He challenged his athletes to pursue excellence in every aspect of life, inspiring them to dream boldly, lead with confidence, and give their best in every endeavor. His influence has left a lasting mark on Louisburg High School and its community.

Freddie will be inducted on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Louisburg Magnet High School. The banquet will be held at 6:00 p.m., and tickets will be $30. Tickets will be available near August 1. Please join us to honor the legacy of Coach Freddie Edwards.
