Siena University Catholic, Franciscan Liberal Arts university located in the Capital Region of New York State. Welcome.
(488)

Siena College is more than a liberal arts college, it is a learning community that prepares students for a successful life filled with compassion and drive, service and responsibility. Here, we believe that making a good living and living a good life go hand in hand. And we prove, over and over again, that an education like the one you receive at Siena comes along once in a lifetime.

We remember the life and legacy of Fr. Hugh Hines, O.F.M., H’89, Siena’s seventh and longest-serving president, who passed away on October 4 at the age of 94. It is especially meaningful that Fr. Hugh entered eternal life on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

During his presidency from 1976 to 1989, Fr. Hugh guided Siena through significant growth. The Siena/Albany Medical College program was established, along with new majors in computer science, theatre and social work. The Siena Research Institute was created, St. Mary of the Angels Chapel was restored, and new townhouses and Kiernan Hall opened, helping shape the Siena generations of Saints have come to know and love.

A beloved professor, president and friar, Fr. Hugh was known for his warmth, humor and commitment to the Franciscan tradition. He remained closely connected to students, even serving as a friar-in-residence in Plassmann Hall.

The Siena community is invited to gather in prayer and remembrance on Friday, October 9 at St. Mary of the Angels Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am Burial will immediately follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.

Fr. Hugh’s impact will be felt at Siena for generations to come. We will carry forward the Franciscan spirit and sense of community he brought to Siena. May he rest in peace.

Happy Feast of St. Francis to the Siena community. Today, we gather as a community of Saints to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi and reflect on the life and legacy he left behind.

His teachings of peace, compassion, humility and service continue to shape who we are at Siena—calling us to care for one another, serve our communities and lead with purpose.

Eight hundred years later, the spirit of St. Francis continues to live through all of us. Pax et Bonum.

The wait is over… meet Baby Baloo! 🐾

He’s officially joining the Siena family and has some pretty big paws to fill.

Want to meet him? Baby Baloo will receive his blessing, this Saturday at 12 pm at the Grotto for Blessing of the Animals during Family Weekend!

For the next year, he’ll learn the ropes alongside Baloo before taking over as Siena’s live mascot.

Siena has been named A Top-10 Private University in the North by U.S. News & World Report.

"This momentum reflects our commitment to providing an exceptional, high-value education that directly translates into real-world success for our graduates," said President Charles Seifert, Ph.D. "This includes high job placement rates, acceptance into top-tier graduate programs, and the launch of meaningful careers where Saints lead with passion and purpose."

U.S. News & World Report refocused its ranking methodology around what matters most: real-world student outcomes, institutional financial health, social mobility, and academic reputation. With student outcomes carrying 52% of the total score, Siena’s dedication to student success took center stage.

Siena University has been named to TIME’s inaugural list of America’s Best Colleges!

So, what actually makes a university "one of the best"? When TIME published their brand-new ranking, they weighted 75% of the score on tangible outcomes: graduation rates, graduate earnings, and return on education.

Here is what that return on education actually looks like in action:

💬 "Talking to my friends at other colleges, I'm the only one with a job lined up." — Madison Matice ’26 (Psychology), who secured a full-time clinical therapist position months before commencement.

💬 "Everything I learned about HR, I learned from Deb Kelly." — Haley Francis ’26 (Management), on how close faculty mentorship led directly to a full-time recruiting job offer.

💬 "It's really the professors here, to be honest. They present the material with so much passion it made me passionate." — Ahmed Zegher ’26 (Biochemistry), who won a major regional research award and pivoted to a Ph.D. track.

It's exactly the reason why Siena is the number one university in New York for getting a job.

Let's relive the best day (and weekend) of the year! Our newest Saints clearly had a lot of fun!

As the sun rose over the Bells of Remembrance at Siena’s Grotto this morning, our community gathered to mark 25 years since September 11, 2001. A quarter-century ago, the peace of a brilliant blue morning was shattered in a tragedy that hit deeply close to home.

We remembered our Siena alumni who lost their lives and honored Fr. Mychal Judge, OFM—a former Siena Friar-in-Residence and FDNY chaplain who became the first official recorded fatality of 9/11 while ministering to others in lower Manhattan.

With the majority of today's students born after 2001, passing down these stories of selflessness, service, and memory remains essential. At 8:46 AM, the moment the first hijacked plane struck the WTC North Tower classrooms, labs, offices, work sites, dining facilities and athletic locations paused for one minute of silence.

On this day of solemn remembrance, we renewed our Franciscan commitment: to comfort those who live with loss, mend what has been broken, and serve as instruments of peace.

May we never forget:
• Patrick Danahy '88
• Richard Fraser '90
• Don Kauth '72
• Terence McShane '86
• William Raub '85
• Michael Taddonio '84
• Fr. Mychal Judge, OFM
