Hello Sailors,

I hope that everyone had safe and healthy holidays and that the new year is off to a great start.

It’s time to get the New Mexico Sailing Club 2024 season off and running. Attached is the Membership Application form for 2024. Please fill out the form and return in to the Club PO Box 1795, Bernalillo, NM 87004. The Membership fee will again be $45 for 2024. Please enclose your check with your application form.

At present, the snowpack and accumulated waters in the San Juan region have been good over the winter. We have the strong possibility of a six to eight week sailing season this summer. And new storms this past week and into next week could add to snowpack measurements.

We had the same forecasts and projections last year, but larger releases of water from Heron Lake by the Bureau of Reclamation during July blew the chances of getting the marina open. We hope to address this process with BoR in the next month or so.

A work party will be scheduled one weekend in April to prepare the marina for reopening. More details on this to follow.

If you are looking to join the Club for the first time and have any questions on anything, please drop me an email.

If you are a previous member and no longer wish to rejoin, let me know or simply ignore this email.

Thanks everyone and take care.

Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed remarkable advancements in water levels. It is truly awe-inspiring to witness the marina finally emerging from its former state.

However, the prolonged period of inactivity has taken its toll on the marina, leaving us with a substantial amount of maintenance work to be done in order to restore it to its former glory. The dedicated members of the NMSC are putting in their utmost efforts to complete the necessary tasks, aiming to salvage some semblance of a season this year.

If you are interested in joining us and contributing to the restoration efforts, please do not hesitate to message us for a membership application. By participating in the work parties we will be organizing, you can earn work credits that can be applied to your dock fees. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those willing to lend a hand.

The lake is still filling and “A” dock and the dock house had about 6’ of water under them. Another 1’ in the last two days and the runoff still has a ways to go.

We’re discussing the possibility of a short season this year, so check in here for updates.
