Magic. Love. Laughter.

Last night proves that love wins. That darkness doesn’t have to overshadow light even when it feels like it can. That laughter and love can find a way.

Sara and Willa had the most magical moment of an impromptu wedding, filled with love, lots of laughter, amazing friends, a few tears — and truly iconic wedding gowns. ❤️❤️

My son, Henry, is now officially a pediatric surgeon — thirteen years in the making since he began med school back in 2012!!!

Henry, we are so proud of the way you lived your life throughout your training, but especially this last year as you embraced fatherhood and worked harder than you ever have — often 14 or 15 hour days, 7 days a week. You showed up for work and home with the same dedication, determination, patience, curiosity, and love you’ve shown your entire life

It was so much fun to celebrate you this weekend and to celebrate Tina, who deserves so many kudos for being mostly a single working mom and for nailing it every single day with her own patients and her own baby.

You both continue to show up and spread your intelligence and love.

I’m gonna hit pause for just a minute today and celebrate one of the truly good things in this world today — my oldest son, Henry.

Henry has been my example in life for 36 years, blowing me away with his imagination, independence, creativity, intelligence, charm, grace, kindness, and quick wit since he was a baby.

I’m his mom, so I get to brag, but I guarantee that if you ask anyone else who knows him, they will agree. A natural leader with a pretty serious outlook on life, he knows when to hang out, let loose, and have fun.

So to my little Leonardo, Red Power Ranger, Davy Crockett, Compsognathus baby, and best big brother — even though you’re now a grown-up pediatric surgeon, husband, and father to the cutest grandbaby ever, I still love you more than the universe and further than the moon.

Love you, Henry. 36 years ago yesterday you changed my world for the better forever and ever. ⠀

Hola Friends!

I’m in Spain visiting colleges and getting some travel time in during my “off season”. Right now, I’m on a train from Madrid to Seville, so please excuse the messiness of this post. The numbers in yellow on the screenshots I’m sharing are just for me so i could organize!

The NACAC spring openings list is out, and if you or your child hasn’t found a college that works for them, either bc decisions didn’t go their way, financial offers aren’t what you were expecting, or maybe you’re just getting started, there are lots of colleges still accepting apps— and looking for good students just like you.

I’ll try to get the link in my bio to the list, but in case I can’t get it done on this train, search up “NACAC college openings list 2025” and it should pop up.

There are currently over 240 schools and they will be adding every day. I’ve highlighted just a few that I’m more familiar with. Please feel free to add info about any of these for students who are looking for a place to land and thrive!

Chag Sameach to those who celebrate!

Normally our seders are somewhat hectic at times, filled with laughter and creativity, and focused on being kid- (and then teen-) friendly, but they’ve always followed the traditional and specific order (for the most part — with the exceptions of the years we did Bingo Seder and Backwards Seder!).

This year, we decided to “unseder” our Seder. For my friends who aren’t Jewish or who haven’t celebrated Passover before, “seder” means “order” in Hebrew, and traditionally, the Passover Seder follows a specific order. Right now, in 2025, everything feels out of order to us and we, as a family, don’t feel free to celebrate Passover in the way that we always have. When you have a member of your family who cannot safely come home to celebrate with family because of legislation that makes flying (or driving) into Texas unsafe, it makes it difficult to celebrate the freedoms we’ve always before taken for granted.

But we did want to celebrate our family and friends and community here in Houston, so we hosted a Passover Gathering instead. We still served matzah ball soup, and had charoset, maror, eggs, salt water, and parsley at a “make your own seder plate” table, and of course there were BBQ beef ribs and chicken (a Second Seder tradition in our house).

It felt right. Of course, I missed my LA kids, but it was nice to gather with Houston friends and family (including my son, daughter-in-love, and grandson at his first Second Seder!), and celebrate that — being together.

Super proud to be the mom of a alum right now. While most colleges and universities are capitulating, Tufts is standing up for freedom of speech. I don’t have to agree with what this grad student wrote in a school newspaper. Many people don’t agree with what I write and say. I still support her right to say what she believes — whether she is a citizen or not, just as I hope my right to say what I believe is protected.
