THE NEXT JOURNAL CLUB: Monday June 8! In this episode, we explore one of the most talked-about shifts in trauma care: the return of whole blood in prehospital resuscitation. Is it truly a game changer, or simply a more streamlined way to deliver the same care? We break down a large, multicenter randomized trial examining prehospital whole blood transfusion versus traditional component therapy in patients with life-threatening traumatic hemorrhage. What actually impacts outcomes when minutes matter most? https://ow.ly/5JmF50Z6CAv

LIVE from ACCREDITCON in New Orleans on Friday May 29th! Join us for the next Education Journal Club episode as we unpack national accreditation data to examine the prevalence of simulation substitution for core clinical skills and its relationship to program performance. We’ll dive into the methodology, assumptions, and implications for educators and learners alike. Register free! https://ow.ly/8Bhr50Z3bRo

APPLY NOW! The New York State EMS/PCRF Research Workshop is June 23-25 in Manhattan, NY. The workshop matches participants with clinical mentors, methodologists, and statisticians to accelerate EMS research with the goal of improving community health and safety through the power of data. During the three-day intensive workshop, participants will learn the basics of EMS research, refine research ideas to assure that the question/goal is clear, explore required data elements to determine viability and define the data query. This free workshop is ideal for students, educators, clinical leaders, and front-line clinicians, with innate curiosity and an itch to launch their next (or first!) research project. Apply by June 1st, 2026. https://ow.ly/V2g550YW3AW

Don’t miss May’s Clinical Journal Club, as we take on a simple but important question in modern resuscitation: when machines take over CPR, does the type of device actually matter? Mechanical CPR use continues to grow across EMS systems, but not all devices are built the same. Does one design actually lead to better outcomes, or are we just splitting hairs between two versions of the same tool? We’ll unpack a large retrospective study of more than 38,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients comparing plunger-type and band-type mechanical CPR devices. We’ll dig into the data, the design differences, and what it means for equipment decisions, training, and high-performance CPR in the field. Register now! https://ow.ly/Io5850YV1qY

Join us on Friday, April 24, for the next Education Journal Club! In clinical rotations, paramedic students are often present for emotionally intense, high-stakes moments in patient care. In this episode, we will dive into the hidden cost of paramedic training by exploring a qualitative study examining how students experience and make sense of these events, their emotional responses, and the ways they cope. We’ll reflect on what this means for EMS education and student support. https://ow.ly/bJZo50YKOzJ

What happens when a cutting-edge innovation in resuscitation changes more than just the patients who receive it? On Monday, April 13, our next Clinical Journal Club examines the system-level impact of extracorporeal CPR (eCPR). Using data from 30,000+ out-of-hospital cardiac arrest cases in Los Angeles County, this study explores whether implementation of an eCPR pilot program influenced outcomes among patients who never received the intervention.
