Culture is determined by how those values are expressed in daily behavior. Every meeting, conversation, and interaction reinforces what is acceptable and what is expected.
Pure Praxis is an improvisational performance group dedicated to fostering prevention, awareness, and cultural change.
Our Performance Education Workshops promote cultural and social change by using live, high energy, socially adaptive theater to re-create difficult real world situations so that the audience can rehearse pro-active responses. By providing a safe space for discussion and practice, we empower audiences to explore new, positive ways to respond to conflict and step up as active bystanders. Led by Pure

Culture Shifts When Silence No Longer Leads. Silence doesn’t just avoid conflict. It quietly teaches people what will be tolerated.

We Stop the Scene. You Change the Outcome. | Pure Praxis Every organization experiences moments that go unaddressed. A comment that lingers a little too long. A behavior that doesn’t sit right. A moment of discomfort that passes without anyone speaking up. Silence can feel easier in the short term but when silence becomes the default response, it quietl...
Thank you Kuya Istilo. Remember to those willing to step into the role of an ally...not everything needs a response. Sometimes what’s needed…
is space.
Because when someone shares something like this, they’re not just talking. They’re trying to breathe.
And we often rush in (albeit with good intentions) with questions, with reactions and with our own discomfort. And suddenly the room feels smaller.
You don’t need a degree to know this. Just don’t take up more space than necessary. Let them breathe.
Kuya Istilo...you should work with us ;)!!! But in all seriousness, what we don’t talk about enough is the weight people carry before they ever say anything out loud.
The second-guessing. The “maybe it wasn’t that bad.” The “maybe it was my fault.”
By the time someone speaks, they’ve already had the conversation with themselves a hundred times. And that moment, when it finally leaves their mouth.... is FRAGILE.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do…is not add more weight to something someone is already carrying.
Thank you for Kuya Istilo for tagging Pure Praxis in this conversation!
One of the most consistent truths we see in this work is this:
The number one fear survivors carry is not just what happened but its whether they’ll be believed when they say their truth out loud.
That moment matters more than most people realize.
Because when someone chooses to speak, they are already taking a risk. And the response they receive can either reinforce silence… or begin to rebuild trust.
You don’t need a degree to be a decent human in that moment.
You don’t need perfect words.
You don’t need to get it “right.”
You just have to choose to show up. To listen. To believe.
That choice is where culture actually shifts.

Most people don’t stay silent because they don’t care.
THEY STAY SILENT because they haven’t practiced what to do in the moment.

We are beyond grateful to be part of conversations that move prevention from awareness into action. In this episode of the Aware and Prepared Podcast, with founder Kelly Pfleider talks about the role of bystander intervention and why practicing these moments matters. At Pure Praxis, we believe people are more likely to step in when they’ve had the opportunity to rehearse what that intervention can look like.
Through 'Cultural Rehearsal', participants explore real scenarios, pause the moment where things shift, and practice responses together. Those experiences build confidence and make it easier to act when it matters.
Thank you to the Aware and Prepared team for creating space for this important dialogue.
