Central American Studies at Cal State LA!
Join and the .hp on Wednesday, October 8th, 6 - 8PM, as we celebrate the 2nd Teach Central America Week with and Cal State LA's Central American Studies Faculty Committee. We'll highlight community efforts documenting Central American history in LA, featuring musician and activist Luis Lopez.
In 1980, the sound of solidarity was coming from musicians like Luis in Los Angeles. He recorded El Salvador Vencerá, toured 33 U.S. cities with Gabino Palomares, and gave voice to Saint Romero through song. He will share his latest research on Salvadoran composer and folklorist, and play las canciones de los ‘80.
Moderator Cindy Mata (UCI) will join CSULA professors Ester E. Hernandez and Claudia Portillo to discuss LA's Central American history, preservation, and teaching opportunities.
