This is a big deal. SAG-AFTRA Members can save enough on one trip to pay for their base dues. Make sure you and your networks know about this. It was in the most recent newsletter.

Tavi Gevinson: Auditions Are Work. Pay Us. (Guest Essay) 06/02/2023

Must read for all performers.

Tavi Gevinson: Auditions Are Work. Pay Us. (Guest Essay) The 'Gossip Girl' actor and Rookie magazine founder writes that too many in Hollywood — including herself until recently — undervalue a huge part of the profession: "I realized how little I knew about auditions’ value as not simply 'opportunities' for us, but commodities that studios need."

Check your email for this SAG-AFTRA survey on Self-Taping. It takes just a couple minutes. And I encourage you to add the unfairness of having to put our friends and family to work for the production for free as readers and enforcement of the Pay for Auditions provisions of our contract, Schedules A 15(B) & B 19(B), in your comments. To make progress in this area, our staff need to know you care about this issue.

THIS IS HUGE. For the first time, every SAG-AFTRA LA member has the chance to suggest agenda items for your Local President, board members, and staff to consider adding to our meeting.

You now have direct input into what we, as your elected leaders, do on your behalf. Spread the word and do not underestimate how awesome this is. We are here to serve you and want you to have a greater opportunity to have a voice and remove the mystery behind how our union is run. You'll get an email like this two weeks before every Local Board meeting. Make use of it.

I'm so proud of us. The email should be in your inbox. This is progress, y'all.

Join us next week for an open online forum to hear what your SAG-AFTRA LA leaders have been doing to address the many issues around self-taping that are negatively impacting our members, and share your experiences and ideas with us.

Our goal is to establish a Code of Best Practices for self-taping so there are reasonable guidelines and limitations to what can be asked of us by our employers for self taped auditions and live virtual auditions.

Wednesday, July 6th @ 6pm PT at the Zoom link:
