A key ingredient in Turon is Saging (Sah-Gheeng) or banana. While the Philippines is home to several types of banana, Turon usually features Saging na Saba.
This type of banana is usually shorter, flatter, and fatter than the typical banana that is widely available in North America. Saging na Saba's distinguished sweetness makes it commonly used as the integral ingredient for banana ketchup. Saging na Saba has a pastel orange interior and has a delightful creamy semi mango/banana flavor when mature. After cooking, Saging na Saba becomes soft and sweet but holds its shape. This makes it perfect for Turon.

As some of you may know, Culinary Committee is trying to raise enough money to purchase a WHOLE ROASTED PIG or Lechon Baboy for our upcoming annual Luau. Help us achieve this goal by buying some of our homemade snacks at any FASA meeting on Thursdays at 6-9pm.

Sweet crispy lumpia wrappers are stuffed with jack fruit and bananas for an unforgettable dessert! Get ready for some Turon at FASA Nominations. All funds go toward getting Lechon Baboy for our annual Luau party.🐷🌺
