One of my neighbors, Robert Hubbell, is a wise and thoughtful man.
He is an attorney and is now a writer and political commentator. A former partner at the international law firm of Morrison & Foerster LLP, he brings decades of legal experience to his analysis of law, democracy, and public affairs. Hubbell is the author of The Fight of Our Lives and writes the widely read Hubbell’s Substack, where he offers clear, accessible commentary on current legal and political issues.
He is known for translating complex legal developments into plain language for a broad audience.
He started the newsletter as an email to his own three daughters after Donald Trump was elected as President in 2016 to help them deal with the emotional upset of the election. From there it grew and grew as people shared his vision of hope and action.
His approach is not to write doom and gloom, but to provide a positive spin on the news and the actions you can take to help save our democracy. If you want hope and direction instead of doom and gloom, I suggest his daily Substack newsletter. His post is public, so feel free to share it.
Here is an example from a recent edition regarding the events in Minneapolis:
Federal officials may succeed in their malignant purpose. But let’s be crystal clear about one thing: There aren’t enough ICE agents and National Guard troops to intimidate tens of millions of Americans peacefully protesting in the streets. This is a battle that Trump will ultimately lose if Americans rise en masse to defend their liberties and the rule of law.
Robert faces competition from others news outlets that are moving to Substack and have teams of people to hit multiple outlets to grab readers attention.
If you want a quality newsletter that provides support in these tough times, you can subscribe for free. This post is public, so feel free to share it.
