Today, students learned about the power of the white cane!

In honor of White Cane Safety Day, our Vision Services Coordinator, Brenda Perla, taught students how the white cane helps people who are blind or have low vision navigate safely and independently, and why some of their peers may use one. By learning and asking questions, students are helping create a more inclusive community for all. 🦯💙

In celebration of Delta Gamma’s Do Good week, we’re grateful to the many members who have visited the Blind Children’s Center over the years to learn more about blindness, low vision , and the impact of early intervention programs for children and families. 💙

We’re excited to share the Blind Children’s Center (BCC) is a proud partner in Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’ (CHLA) recently launched Cerebral / Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) Multidisciplinary Clinic, providing functional vision assessments, early intervention services and other educational support to children with CVI and their parents! CVI is the leading cause of childhood blindness and low vision.

The CVI Multidisciplinary Clinic is the first of its kind on the West Coast and is designed to help children and their parents better understand and navigate a CVI diagnosis. 💙

In recognition of Head Start Awareness Month, last week our CEO, Sarah Orth, joined Luis Bautista, Executive Director of LACOE Head Start and Early Learning Division, along with LACOE Board Members, program leaders, and Head Start parents in Washington, D.C., to share the real-life impact of Head Start on children and families.

Together, they met with Samantha Elizalde, staffer for Representative Laura Friedman , and Colin Kruse, staffer for Senator Adam Schiff , to highlight how Head Start helps children thrive, supports families, and creates opportunities for lifelong success.

We are grateful for the leadership, partnership, and advocacy of our Head Start community in helping elevate the voices and experiences of the children and families we serve. Their stories are a powerful reminder of why continued investment in early childhood education and family support matters.
