6 years ago under a covid mask a ceramicists we looked up too walked into clay to fire her work. I had been following her work for a while and felt star struck by her presence. After many kiln firings we became friends. I grew to care for her because she led her life and practice with intent and vulnerability, something that sometimes feels foreign as we get older.

Just a week ago we sat at this very table. We hugged and spoke for a while about life, you said you wanted to travel, that you wanted to make pieces even taller than you had already built. To think you were dreaming so big a week ago only to hear of your passing somehow doesn’t feel real.
Death can feel unfair or confusing at times, but we must MUST live it to the fullest, and take the time to tell those around us how lovely they are. I am deeply saddened to know we will not see the future dreams you spoke of come to life, but am also grateful to have shared time together. Until then dear friend, I’ll see you on the other side within ceramic archeological fragments in between.

Rest in peace Jasmine πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ€

Moments from this past weekends pit firing, with an amazing and lovely group πŸ’“
We arrived early in the morning to start digging followed by placing each piece with surrounding materials ranging from sawdust, kelp, copper, leaves, and driftwood amongst many other organic materials. Ironically more than the burnt material it’s the circulation of the smoke that creates the most color. Some photos of the result after unveiling them from the flames.

Thank you to Sandra, Izaid, Leonard, Alex, Gabbie B, Elianah, Maddy, Marcelle, Kathleen, Sarah, Marie-Aimee, Cesar, Haley, Tiffany, Katie, Catherin, & Rosie and everyone involved πŸ’—

Ode to our friend and studio member Padma Earth / Kyna Payawal- a Filipina American who has lived across continents with a playful curiosity about how people transform and light up. πŸ’šπŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸ₯—

PADMA gatherings are intentional, experiential dining experiences that awaken a sense of mutual kinship with the earth. Each dinner is distinct and created in collaboration with artists and chefs, weaving multisensory narratives rooted in deep ecology, regenerative food futures, and local community care.

Photographs above detail the process from start to finish- from kiln to table. πŸ’šπŸ’š .earth
