The CIRP Freshman Survey offers a comprehensive snapshot of your incoming first-year students before they even set foot on campus.

Focus:

High School Behaviors: Gain insights into students' academic and extracurricular activities during high school.
Academic Preparedness: Assess the readiness of students for college-level coursework.
> Admissions Decisions: Understand why students chose your institution and their other potential choices.
> College Expectations: Learn about students’ hopes and aspirations for their college experience.

Your First College Year Survey (YFCY) is now open for administration!

The YFCY survey measures students’ academic, social, and co-curricular experiences and development throughout the first year of college. It is the second in the HERI longitudinal survey series.

Focus: Academic experiences, extracurricular involvement, satisfaction and sense of belonging, perceptions of campus climate, interactions with diverse others, student-faculty interactions, health and wellness, and perceptions of intellectual growth.

ACE and UCLA Ed&IS Release HERI Report Highlighting Key Trends Among First-Year College Students – HERI 02/25/2025

Together, with the American Council on Education (ACE) and UCLA School of Education & Information Studies, we have released a new report: Understanding the Entering Class of 2024: Key Insights from The CIRP Freshman Survey 2024.

Based on responses from over 24,000 students across 55 institutions, this report illuminates the growing diversity of today’s first-year college students, their financial pressures, academic confidence, and mental health challenges. These insights provide an evidence-based roadmap for higher education leaders to navigate institutional policy in our complex and often fraught political landscape.

At a time when understanding and supporting students has never been more critical, this report underscores the power of data-driven research to shape policies that ensure all students can thrive.
