On Sunday, Nov. 7th Daylight Saving Time (DST) is coming to an end. Here is an easy way to help your child prepare to “Fall Back”. Starting tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 4th you are going to adjust your child’s entire schedule by 15 minutes. Your child’s wake periods and nap lengths will remain the same, just the times will change. You will want to shift your child’s entire day by 15 minutes. So (for example) if your little one typically wakes up at 7:00am, Thursday you will wake them at 7:15am instead. Over the next 3 days you will continue to adjust your child’s entire schedule by 15 additional minutes each day. Then on Sunday morning, Nov. 7th you will wake your child at their normally scheduled time (example) 7:00am. Please see example chart below

While it’s always important to share all recalls in the infant world, it is also important to understand WHY products are being recalled. Today, many European formulas have been recalled by the US FDA for insufficient iron levels to meet US standards. In order to understand this, it’s important to understand the difference between the iron in US formulas and that of European formulas.
In the United States, pediatricians recommend iron supplementation for exclusively breast milk fed babies starting by about 6 months of age. This is because breast milk does not contain enough iron exclusively and baby's stores of iron (from their time in the womb) are depleted by around 6 months. The RDA for iron in babies 0-6 months is .27 mg per day. At 7-12 months, it increases to 11 mg per day.
This is why many European formulas often have multiple stages. Babies’ nutritional needs change throughout the first year, and in Europe, the formula changes as baby grows. Because of this, 0-6 month formulas contain much less iron than 7-12+ month formula.
In the United States, infant formula is formulated to be given for the entire first 12 months, and is therefore actually quite over fortified compared to the actual needs of an infant in order to meet US standards. This over fortification is one of the reasons we see constipation in US infants at much higher rates than other countries.
Babies over six months can also eat iron rich foods like lentils, beans, meats, and green vegetables or add an infant iron supplement in order to increase their iron intake.
Just because European formulas are fortified in stages and have different nutrition standards than here in the US, it doesn't mean they are inferior or dangerous (quite the opposite actually, European formulas generally contain less fillers and are overall of better quality), it just means they do not meet the current US regulations. It is important to have all of the facts when reading recalls and making decisions for your family!

This is a article on how to choose a bottle for your brestfed baby!
Bottles for Breastfed Babies (Introducing a Bottle, Part 1) | Rachel O'Brien, IBCLC
Let’s say you’re breastfeeding and you really want to use bottles sometimes, too. How on earth are you supposed to pick a bottle to even start with if every company has similar claims and the boogeyman of “nipple confusion” is lurking around every corner?
