Please join us on Wednesday September 23rd from 4-7pm at the New Wight Gallery Broad Art Center on UCLA’s campus for the opening of the 2026 New Wight Biennial: Fugitive Planning. The exhibition runs from Wednesday September 23 - Thursday October 8th, with a one time live performance by Fana Fraser on Saturday September 26th at 4pm. The performance will be followed by a conversation between Fana Fraser and Dr. Tiffany Barber.
This international exhibition includes sculpture, video, painting, and performance from 17 artists representing 4 countries and countless identities.
Fugitive Planning is the process by which we study, conspire and move toward new ways of being, outside and beyond the enclosure of neocolonialism and all of its violent means. We hope you will join us.
This exhibition was conceived alongside the work of Fred Moten, Saidiya Hartman, and other scholars whose writings over the past 2 decades have illuminated the concept of fugitivity, a mode of being and thinking which remains more necessary than ever (see The Undercommons, Lose Your Mother, Venus in Two Acts).
