LGBT Student Services provides educational and support services to students that identify as LGBT+ and allies. The LGBT Student Services Office at LMU focuses on promoting equality, visibility and inclusion of LGBT students within the LMU community. This is done by providing support for the LGBT student community and individual students. The Office serves as the primary resource and support center

LGBTSS had the honor of hosting and helping many, many beautiful ideas come into fruition this past LGBT+ History Month! Here's a recap of the amazing things that have happened:

- A virtual Coming Out Day Photoshoot, featuring Alex Hampton (she/her), Renee Cheung (she/her), Allesse (she/her) and Immauri Patterson (he/they), Drew Tabor (she/her), Isa Valenica (she/her), and some other AMAZING lions!

- Watching CRIME (Caring Radically in Marginalized Environments), a QTPOC led service group, raise more than $2000 for LMU QTPOC mental health. (FYI: If you want to learn more about this or donate, go to bit.ly/crimelmu1020, on Instagram, or venmo !)

- Did an Instagram series called "Sharing Q***rStory," which narrated the lives and passions of many historic Q***r trailblazers. Shoutout to Lalo Moreno for these amazing graphics and engaging content!!

- Went to some AMAZING LGBT+ History Month themed events done by Black Q***r Space, QTPOC Space, Transcendence, Somewhere Under the Rainbow, Q***r Film Club, and CRIME! We are SO proud of our LGBT+ student leaders for taking care of themselves and their communities.

This week in LGBT History Month Happenings!!!

Learn and Lunch: Knitting, A Tool for Social Justice

Bring your own lunch and learn from an amazing speaker, how fabric textiles such as knitting can be utilized as tools for social justice. Featuring: Jasmine Nyende, Multimedia, textile artist.

The Del Rey Players: Dog Sees God

Dog Sees God is a dark comedy that follows the lives of the characters from the classic "Peanuts" comic series as they navigate high school, hormones, sexual identity, and the meaning of life and death.

Explore this beautiful, hilarious, impactful show October 10 - 13 and 16 - 18 at 8:00 pm.
Tickets will be sold at the door but can also be purchased through the link in our Instagram and pages for $10.

ON OCTOBER 16TH: After the show, join the Del Rey Players in collaboration with LGBTSS to discuss the meanings and implications of such a powerful show. This event will take place directly after the performance of Dog Sees God in the Del Rey Theater.

Yarn Bombing Anti- Bullying Awareness Intervention Installation

A group of LMU staff members are organizing a series of events in October called Hats for Hope: Knitting as a Tool for Social Justice. Hats for Hope brings the opportunity to knit or learn how to knit hats to support the LGBTQ community and anti-bullying. Recent examples of social justice knitting/crocheted projects are the pink hats for the Women’s March, blue hats for Hats Not Hate: Stand Up to Bullying, and the Welcome Blankets in response to the U.S. President’s border wall. One of the events Hats for Hope is hosting is a Yarn Bombing Los Angeles exhibition on Palm Walk at Lawton Plaza beginning October 14.

LGBTSS Spirit Day: Anti Bullying Pledge Drive

Spirit Day is a means of speaking out against LGBTQ bullying and standing with LGBTQ youth, by visibly show solidarity with LGBTQ youth and to take part in the largest, most visible anti-bullying campaign in the world. Stop by our table in Lawton Plaza to pick up a free purple spirit day shirt, sign our anti bullying pledge card, and learn more about how you can be an up stander in the face of bullying.
